Default Hitch Weight Question for 1st gen Tundra

I'm negotiating a deal on a new Airstream Safari 25 with a hitch weight of 860 lbs. Reading various threads here I've seen that hitch weight limit is 750lbs or I may risk damaging the receiver.
I brought this up to the dealer who checked with the service guys and I was told that as long as I have an Equalizer hitch, it will distribute the weight to the TV in three equal parts and the hitch weight will be actually less than 300lbs.
Is this info legit. I fell off the turnip truck but not yesterday. Thanks. Steve

That is incorrect. The rating that Toyota recommends is 500 lbs without a WDH, and 710-740 lbs with a WDH (depending on model). I have exceeded that and bent my receiver. I would be comfortable going to 750 lbs, but no more. Maybe you can load the airstream such that the hitch weight is less than 750 lbs.
