Default ok I went to the scales today. What does everyone think?

i have a 2003 AC V8 with tow package 2wd. gcwr is 11800. I went to the scales today with my 25' travel trailer. I weighed just the truck with the trailer attached first. I had my sister and 2 year old in the truck. Usually I will just have my wife and son when we go on trips. the truck weighed in at 5470# with trailer attached. oh yeah, and I had a 1/2 tank of gas.

then I weighed the whole rig. The trailer had no water in it. It did have full propane and batteries and everything. The total weight was 10280#. If I fill the water tank I'll have about an extra 300#. Does that mean I have about 1000# to spare for a generator and camping gear? Will I be ok with this setup?

Some will so go and others no go.

Personally, I'm at the max. in a 2007, and I'm comfortable with it but I have modified the truck by putting on 10 plys, air bags, etc. Also, I remember that I have a heavy trailer behind me (something you could be excused for forgetting, with 381 hp under the hood) and I'll keep to 60 MPH, stay in the right lane, don't get impatient, etc.

I would also use something like the equalizer sway bars for weight distribution, and have a good (inertial) brake controller.

Depends. The truck weight of 5470 lbs with the trailer attached and 2.x people in it sounds really light. Doesn't make sense. Did you weigh just the truck without the trailer attached? It should weigh at least 4700 lbs, probably more, empty. Add 2.x people and the hitch weight of the trailer and I would expect it to be a little higher.

You are correct in that you have about 1000 lbs left on the GCWR. The more important number is the GVWR of the truck, and you seem to have a lot of room there as well. Just need to reconcile that low truck weight with the truck and trailer attached.

Yeah I went to the pacific recycling. I had the trailer attached and just pulled onto the scale without the trailer tires on the scale (hence the weight of the truck with the trailer attached) then I just pulled up a little more so the entire rig was on the scale. they printed out the results and handed it to me and it shows 5470 for the first weight and 10280 for the second weight. did you take into consideration that it's an AC and 2WD?
