Default Tongue Weight

I'm a very anal person and I always want to make sure I do things the right, but most inportantly; Safely!

I'll be towing my car hauler and my rock crawler (85 4Runner) for the first time in a few weeks. I've read up on how to check tongue weight using the bathroom scale method. http://www.rverscorner.com/tongueweight.html

I'm not so confident in this and I'm turning to the forum hoping for more input.
I've located this handy tool to accurately measure the tongue weight without having to go to a truck scale or use a bathroom scale.

Has anyone here used this and how does it work as far as accuracy?
If you have one or have used one, how close did your bathroom scale measurements come to the scale measurements?

The scale is made by Sherline and there are three models available. 100#, 2000#, and 5000#. I think the 2000# version would be best.

You might want to post this in the towing section, there are a lot of smart people over there who can answer it quickly.

What do you not like about a good set of bath scales and a lever? It's simple physics, so it works, but the scale casing has to be able to handle the weight without bending or breaking. I've never seen the Sherline scale, but I did a quick search and found the following: Misc - Measure your tongue weight - a set on Flickr. Notice that it compares the bath scale directly to the Sherline.

I have the sherline. The 2000 lbs version should be your best bet. Room to grow and accurate. I've compared it to truck scale weights and it's spot on. Good choice to buy one. I use it every trip. Takes 2 minutes to get a weight. I used the bathroom scale method but not often. Too much thought required.

Get a sherline. You'll enjoy it.
