200 tundra trailer harness not working just installed new
i just got done installing the trailer wiring harness for a 2000 tundra (parts numbers 08921-34860 & PT220-34012) easy install everything snaps in and set up is done. hook the trailer to test it out and nothing. All my truck lights work perfectly and no problems with fuses blown or anything like that just nothing lights up on my trailer. Took my truck of hooked up my buddies and the trailer lights up. IS there any known problems with these harnesses or do i have a crap one? Anyone got any ideas? thanks.

I have the exact same problem. I have the factory tow package with 4 pin connector. I wired a 7 pin connector and brake controller. I use my buddies trailer and everything works on it when the ball hitch is connected except the lights are intermittent every so often. I lift the trailer off the hitch while still connected and loose everything. I initially thought I had a bad ground but I ran the ground back to the battery and it didn't solve the problem. I think the problem must be the trailer. Although when my buddy hooks up the trailer everything seems to work. This is driving me crazy trying to chase down the problem.
I think you can buy a 7pin and 4pin connector tester and plug it into the truck harness. If all the test lights come on your truck wiring is good and it has to be the trailer. This is what I am in the process of trying now.

Did you install the little wiring harness that hooks into the main harness up by the battery? It is a real rip that Toyota did that setup but without that little harness the towing doesn't get power.

In my towing experience 90% of wiring problems are due to bad ground.
The post about it working (albeit intermittently) when on the tow ball, and not at all when off would support this as the cause in this case as well. I isn't enough to trace the ground back to the battery. Also need to check for continuity, or see if power is there using the supplied ground on the 7-pin or 4-pin plug.
