I've got a 02 access limited with 150k on the 4.7. We just tok our 28' 5er out two weeks ago for our first trip with it. It weighted in at 6800 dry, so we were around 8,000 with what we took. King pin weight was 1275lbs. I had no real problems anywhere. Our route didn't include any major climbs, but plenty of hills around here. Very happy with the combo. We got almost 12mpg on the trip Would still like a 2010 DC 5.7, but no rush for that.

while our rv is not a 5th wheel, its a reg travel trailer, i haul it with our reg cab 4.7. our rv is a 31.5 outback keystone, dry weight is 6800, gross is 9800 ( tanks filled) scaled at a tad under 9000. lbs.

only problem we had with towing was a lot of sway in cross wind. a dual cam sway took away all of that problem.

the 4.7 tows the whole setup just fine.

only downfall to the 4.7 / 5 speed tranny combo, is that the tranny spends a lot of time in 3 gear when it should be in fourth, have to manually up shift it some times.

kf4qvi sounds like you're well over but managing (if i understand the 02 cap's correctly). I really had no reason to worry and now won't think twice about hooking up the bateau. I'd like to do the mountains this coming summer/spring skiing perhaps. I'll see how she pulls then. Won't take Rogers Pass, probably go the Crowsnest Route and hit some of them hills.

Thanks TundraBay and Hank. I'll likely have some questions regarding techniques for climing next season (more just RPM ranges and such). I'm hoping to do my Class 3 this year (just did my Q endorsement last month) but the wife made me quit the local Fire Department for a while (young boys, one with severe food allergies)
