Default Best place to install a brake controller?

I have a 2007 CrewMax SR5 and have to mount a Prodigy brake controller. I really want to mount it in the opening between the cigarette lighter and the 12V DC plug (see photo attached). If I drill a hole in the back of this opening, I'm not sure if I can get the wires snaked to the plug under the steering column. Has anyone out there done this? If so, I'd like to hear how it went. Otherwise, where else have you installed your brake controller? Thanks.

By the way, the Prodigy controller fits very nice in this opening when using the cradle-type holder. I planned on using industrial double-sided tape to mount the cradle in the opening.

Do3,

I'm posting a few links I had saved off from my install when I was researching that might be helpful for you below. Some of these are for the P3, but I found them helpful (even though I bought a prodigy myself).

Prodigy Brake Controller w/ connector install
P3 Install, Where did you cut?
installing a trailer brake controller
Tekonsha P3 Install in Crewmax

My wife, brother-in-law and I looked at putting ours in both the area you're considering and the spot pictured below and found the one where we ended up easier from a dash-removal & wiring stretch perspective. IMO its also more convenient to reach when you're driving which is an important factor for a brake controller.

We had to dremel a half-dime-sized area of the trim where it's installed (on the back side) to make sure the slider at the bottom wasn't constrained which we could have avoided if we wanted it to stick out a bit more. It fights tightly in the installed area and we were able to use side mounting screws that came with the Prodigy to secure it in the trim box when popped out of the dash.

DaveGS4,
Thanks a bunch for the links and pictures. I figured someone else had to have done this. I have to learn how to use the search feature better on this forum. I serched, but nothing useful came up (my lack of search technique I'm sure). I'm going to tackle this project this weekend.
