Default Towing experience w/ TRD 22"s

So, my first post here in a while... and yes I've already searched!

In the next few weeks, I will be towing an open car hauler trailer with a Jeep on it about 1300miles round trip. Total weight will be 6500-7000lbs. My truck has the 5.7, tow package, and I have a brake controller as well. I have towed smaller loads (19' boat, Jetskis, Uhauls, etc.) much shorter distances (usually <50miles) with this Tundra and my 2000 Tundra before it.

My question is about my tires... I have the TRD 22" wheels with 285/45 Toyo Proxes S/T on them. The sidewalls say 2601lbs @ 50psi max load. I can't imagine putting more than about 35psi in these tires as the ride is really pretty harsh, but I know that I'll want to do that to have enough "side wall" for this load.

So... anyone have experiences good, bad, or otherwise towing a decent sized load a long distance with these 22"s?

I don't have experience with your exact truck, but I have towed some large and heavy trailers. My advice to you is to not skimp on the tire pressure. Yes, the ride will be rougher, but I'm sure you don't want a tire to fail on your trip due to low pressure.

TRDSport - I agree with you and was not thinking to skimp on the air pressure in my 22s. I guess what I was hoping for is some opinion on whether or not these tires (at any pressure) will do decent towing a long distance. I was thinking about picking up a set of taken-off 18" TRD rims for relatively cheap to use as my "towing long distance" tires.

The extra pressure won't be as harsh as you think as the extra weight will soften the suspension (until you get to the bump stops )

Bump... somebody must have some similar towing experience with the 22s to comment on?
