I got this as a package with the Hensley I just ordered. It came in the mail first, so I went ahead and installed it. This is a fairly big-faced unit compared to the Prodigy line or others, so finding a place to put it in the Tundra was tricky. I could not place it where the old controller was because of its size- my right knee was hitting it, so I had to look elsewhere.
I decided to place the unit just above and a little to the left of the open slot (the slot b/t the cig lighter and power port). Just yank the entire section out by placing your hand into the opening and apply upward pressure, then pull- it will pop out.
Next, I just drilled a hole from behind that slot so the wires could go through and behind the dash.
NExt is a little more tricky, but not much. With that entire section out and away from the dash, get in as close as you can and look to the left- you will see an opening to the steering column. This is where you can thread/fish the wires back TOWARDS the column and all of the guts back there. I used some silver picture wire I found in the shed. I just tied it, then taped it tight to the wires.
Dont pay any attention to the wire in front. Look at the silver picture hangar wire headed to wards the steering column. Again, as you are sitting in the drivers seat and peering into that hole where the pretty black plastic filler piece was that had the 2 power ports, this will be to the left.
Just to the left and down from the steering column, it was very easy to pull a little at this piece of trim and have it come lose, and you can see the wires I'm fishing/pulling through.
Hey lookie there. The wires from the brake controller fished through and ready to connect to the harness wire(on the left side looking at this picture). I connected the 2 sets and tucked them under the steering column cover.
Here is where I decided to mount the controller.
There's the unit mounted in place. I still have to calibrate it. Dont worry about that wire coming from behind the controller. Its just my cell phone charger plugged in.
Anyway, I hope this install give you a basic idea of what I did. Again, the True Control is a bigger head unit. Not only that, it orients vertically vs horizontally like the prodigy units do. So I think my mounting options were limited, I think I found a good place for it. Note: I did lose the use of the front cupholder. BFD.
