I have just purchased Spidertrax 1.25" wheel adapter/spacers to widen the stance of my 06 Tundra to better fit my 285/70R17 tires. I am wondering if anyone has any experience towing with these, plenty of people seem to run them on their Tundras w/o any problems but I am wondering about the extra loads from towing.
Thanks for your help, Mike. Toyota Hub Centric Wheel Spacer Kit
I have Marlin Crawler 1.5 spacers and in June of this year I towed our 26' Outback travel trailer (5,600 lbs scaled weight) up to Oregon and Washington. Round trip was 2,400 miles - zero problems. Just took the truck in for a balance and rotate and asked the shop to check the torque on the spacer nuts (since they had the wheels off anyway) and only one nut was a little loose on the right front corner. Prior to the towing trip I did a non-towing trip from where I live in CA to Casper, WY, then down to Denver CO for a weekend of 4x4 training with Bill Burke and back home. 2,800 miles, no problems. A couple of weekends ago, a little 4 wheeling with some good friends on an overnighter and you guessed it....no problems. My truck with all her mods is pushing close to 6,000 lbs so she is a bit heavier than the average Tundra. Just remember you will need to periodically check the nuts and make sure they aren't working loose. Typically once seated, they are good to go.
So, install those spacers and enjoy!

Thanks for the info, I'm going to install them today. By the way that is one heck of a truck you have built. Looks like you have had a lot of fun and been a lot of great places with it.
You're welcome. Thanks for the compliment. She's been a work in progress for a number of years now and I'm very happy with how well she does everything I ask. Many, many great memories from all the places I've been with her (Yellowstone, Yosemite, Crater Lake, California, Oregon and Washington coasts, Sierra Nevada mountains and Death Valley to name only a few) and hopefully many more to come.
BTW, I love it up in your neck of the woods! In a word - Beautiful!

Well I got the Spider trax 1.25" hub centric wheel adapters installed on my 06DC 4x4 with Bilsteins 5100 on the front (fourth highest ring = 2") and a one inch block in the rear. They move my 285/70R17 tires flush with the fender flares outer edge. No adverse effects of the truck handling although it seems more stable cornering maybe due to the wider track - probably the Hellwig rear sway bar!! The tires do rub on the front mud flaps at partial turns so with my set up anything further than 1.25" would not work as the tires would hit the inner fenderwell and IMO stick out too far. Seems to be a great product.
Cool! Glad you're happy. Give them a month and you'll want to retorque them.
