Re: How tight do you make your Hellwig helper springs?
Depends on the load and how much your want your truck to settle with it.
I wanted my truck to settle almost 2" so that it was level front to back when hooked to the 5'er. Amazingly that didn't take much effort, it measures 1 1/2" from the bottom of the notch in the helper spring to the top of the stock springs.

If you can't take it with ya, why bother with an RV!

The adjustment on the helpers is going to depend on the vehicle and the amount of load. Minimum adjustment is where the u-bolts don't make any noise. Max adjustment is when the cup in the spring is 1/4" from the main spring - or where you can slide a pencil between the main spring and the cup in the helper spring If you have 1" clearance, that is a good starting point for the initial installation.

Re: How tight do you make your Hellwig helper springs?
Anyone try airbags before getting these springs? I had usually carry 1/3 tank of water as ballast in my camper, but coming back from FL I had to winterize because of freezing temps in OH. As a result there was too much weight off of the tongue and more on the rear and I had a very very bumpy ride, using airbags now. Thinkin of getting new shocks maybe but was thinking about these springs?
