Default Tacoma - convert 4 flat to 7 round trailer wiring

My 99 Toyota Tacoma is my secondary tow vehicle for a small Pop-Up camper. My truck currently has the 4 flat wiring (which I did myself), and I want to convert it to the 7 way round plug for my current pop-up.

There are simple plug converters out there (from 4 to 7 round), but I obviously would not get the benefit of having the brake controller lead, backup light lead, and the hot lead running back to the trailer.

Now (finally) my question: what's the best approach to convert over from the 4 flat to the 7 round? Should I buy the simply plug converter, then run my additional leads (brake, backup, hot) back to the plug? How difficult is it to find the brake electrical line that I need to tap into? I'm comfortable running my own hot lead back, but don't know anything about tapping into the brake feed.

    TIA!

DJ's trailer brake controller wiring instructions
INFO: How The Wiring on your Trailer Should Work

Basically, you can cut of the 4 pin flat, connect the 4 wires from it to the correct location on a 7-way. That gives you right turn, left turn, tail lights and ground. You tap into the rear light assembly for the reverse lead. You run a wire along the undercarriage and up into the cab to connect to your barke controller for electric trailer brakes. You run a second wire along the undercarriage into the engine bay and connect it to the +12v positive post on the battery with 30 amp cycling/auto-reset circuit breaker (Ideally there’d be a solenoid so it’s only powered when truck is running) for your aux power/bat charge line.
