Default Alarm & Prodigy Brake controller problem

I have had an alarm system installed on my Toyota Tundra for several months which has been working fine since installaltion. However, after purchasing a travel trailer and having the Prodigy brake system installed , the alarm system is not working. I noticed the first time after the installation when setting the alarm on the truck, that it did not set (did not hear the horn beep). A few days later on my way home from work, the horn started honking on its own as I was driving down the highway. I stopped by Joe Myers Toyota and they disconnected it for me.

The next day 10/29/04 I took the truck back to the RV Dealer and had the technician look at it again. He says there is nothing he could have done differently. That Toyota has a factory connect for the brake in the glove box, that he used and that no wires were spliced or cut. He was on the phone with someone from Joe Myers who told him that other Tundra owners had complained of the same problem and that it was a problem with the Tundra. Now I am caught in the middle of this without my alarm system working. Both dealers have been very good at helping me but I just need to figure out why the alarm does not work. Anybody else encountered this problem???
Thanks,

Thanks,
I installed a Prodigy on my '03 with the factory RS3200 alarm system and there have been no conflicts whatsoever. The Prodigy was installed just like yours was using the provided harness and the built in plug behind the driver's kick panel.

IIRC, the distributor for your region (Gulf States Toyota) does not use the factory alarm system and the alarm they do use may indeed have unwanted interaction with your brake controller, though this is the first report of one. Suggest you investigate as to whether or not the alarm has a sensor for the brake pedal stop switch as this is one place the Prodigy gets a signal from.

This is new to me I dont remember ever seeing a factory connct behind the glove box.My controller i connectd right at the brae pedal switch. I think they may have tapped into the wrong wire. I dont even see where the GULF STATES ALARM, which is different than others, hooks into the harness behind the glove box.
Could you take a picture of what they tapped into behind the glove box?

Victor...

What he's referring to is a pigtail wiring harness for brake controllers that was shipped inside the glove box (in an envelope with installation instructions) on '03s and newer that had the factory towing package.

Starting in '03, the factory towing package included full wiring for a brake controller...the termination of this wiring is a plug behind the driver side kick panel...a connection to the brake light switch, a 12 Volt lead from the battery, a wire to the 7 pin Bargman/Pollack plug at the back by the hitch, and a ground are all already connected to this plug. There was also a 5th connection in this plug...from the instrument panel lighting...for brake controllers that have internal illumination.

Unlike on your '02, installation of a brake controller on a '03 or newer with the factory towing package does not require any tapping into under dash wiring. Installation simply involves soldering the brake controller wires to the appropriate wires in the supplied pig tail harness and that harness is then plugged into the provided plug behind the kick panel. It's basically a 15 minute, no-brainer job to install a brake controller on an '03 or later that has the factory tow package.

Bottom line is the guy who installed the Prodigy controller should not have done any tapping into wires behind the dash as that is not needed.

Thanks for the responses guys. My Tundra is at the dealer today and they were going to do a conference call with the technician that installed the Prodigy today. Hopefully they can figure it out. I printed RockyMtnRays response and she took it in to the dealer so maybe that will help. I'll let you know how it all works out today. Had to drive my wifes car in to work today and hated it. Thanks again!

The inside Part threw me for a loop

EXACTLY!
Hope things work out at the dealer.
