i went and test drove a 05 double cab today. after reading here for a while i had an idea of what to expect. what i would like to know, is if anybody is using theirs to tow with. if so what are you towing, how much weight, and how much distance.
overall the truck ran very well. a bit soft on the bottom end as expected. although almost anything would be compared to the 454 suburban we are now using.
i suppose the last (for now) question is what did you pay for yours and what options do you have.
Special lease prices til tuesday according to dealer (maybe i'm naive), never would have leased one but... sticker was 33k+ --- taxes title etc were 2500 and the monthly is 300 with no upfront downpayment. 36 month lease with 12k miles a year, seemed like a good deal. I will be towing a a spec miata race car on an open car trailer with brakes. Just got the tundra today

yes the sticker on the one i drove was 33+. the salesmen really like to work from msrp. i want to work from invoice.
i think 28.5, they keep the rebate and i take the 2.9% financing would be reasonable.
my wife would be towing her horse. we weighed the trailer, though it was still attached to the truck. the trailer weighed in at 2160 lbs empty. if i estimate the tongue weight at 25% (we will weigh the unit unhitched soon) that puts it at about 2700. throw in one 1300 lb horse and your at 4000. throw in the 1000 horse and your at 5000. a couple people and saddles and your about 5500. right now she only goes about 5 miles to ride. with a better vehicle she will start going further.

Reason: current fleet
I can only tell you that I paid $32,889 (out the door) for my 04 Doublecab Limited and that included 7% sales tax plus license fees etc. Supposedly, I bought for $188 over dealer invoice, I can't find that particular piece of paper right now to tell you what that number was. I am thinking it was right around $30k; the MSRP was something like $33,600. I bought the first one my dealer ever received and there were NO incentives.
I have towed moderate-sized laods thousands of mile without any great difficulty. By moderate, I mean 3-5 thousand pounds. I would think that for routine loads over 5,000 lbs, you might want to think of a different truck. For occassional 50-100 mile jaunts up to 6,000 or so, I would think the Tundra would to fine so long as you do not have to deal with significant grades. You might want to visit the towing section for the best information from guys that tow regularly.

You start with invoice. If the salesman start with MSRP, tell him no and you restate your price from invoice. Stick with it and do not give away to the salesman. The whole point is that they want and need to sell that truck and you do not really need a new truck. They have to work at selling the truck.
I got mine about 3 weeks ago. The sticker price was $32,000. I started at $27,000, the salesman tried from msrp and lease. I told them I don't want a lease and I'm telling you I'm only going with $27,000 with my bank loan. They came back with msrp and minus some with the $800 coupon book. I responded, thanks for the $800 coupon book but it's still $27,000. They came back with using a 4 grid with their price and telling me to put down, monthly payments and such (it's a way to make the numbers look "good"), I told them to put that away since I won't look at that and the price is still $27,000. They came back later with more money discounted from msrp with 0% interest loan from Toyota and I responded with "thanks for the 0% interest and $800 coupon but I'm still only going to pay $27,000." After 3 hours plus of talking to the sales people they finally relented to give the truck to me for $27,000, $800 coupon book and 0% interest. I think they finally decided I was using too much of their time. The advantage I had was I wasn't trading my car (which I'm keeping).
I pull a Thor 22BH TT. It's about 4300lb dry. This truck pulls this trailer just fine. I use a WD hitch, and Firestone airbags for a firmer ride in the rear. I have puuled through mountins, desert, etc. no complaints.
05 D-cab out door about 25 I think a little less. TRD Power everything, 2wd blah blah.
I tow truck on a a car trailer a lot with no problems. We have a 2 and 4 horse trailer with no problems and I also tow a 56 merc every once in a while with no proble ms.

I tow a 23' Rinker Cuddy that tips the scale at 6,500 pounds with our 04 DC. I wish for more power in the hills, but I also wish for the same when towing it with our 1500HD chevy. Over all great truck and can't wait for my second one in 06 maybe.

I have had Air-Bags on my TacomaAC '98 TundraAC '02 TundraDC '04 makes Towing a breeze.....Went to the Home Depot and got a skid of Wall stones. Guy next to me made a comment of how it was going to make my bumper hit the ground. I had 70lbs in the bags before they loaded me and it made the rear sit slightly below level. The other guy (new gmc short bed1/2 ton) got loaded with a lighter skid of paver blocks, and it put the headlights towards the sky. I said looks like you need wheelie bars. Home Depot guy busted out laughing because he loaded me up earlier in the day and knew I had Bags.
But back to the Point....I tow pretty much with my '04 DC, The '05 has more power and a 5-speed I can only imagine how much better it is!
By the way, I just bought my Tundra on May 25th for about $500 under invoice - $2000 rebate which made it about $27,500. The MSRP was about $32,600 or so.
I went to Charlotte, NC to buy mine, because it was a no-hassle internet deal. They showed me the price, on the Internet, $500 below invoice, and that is exactly what they stayed with, no hassle, no problems.
no, not in kentucky. i'm in south central pennsylvania.
what was the name of the dealer that you went to for the internet price below invoice? i might be able to use that as leverage.
the sad part is that if we do get this truck i will have to sell my 03 acura rsx-s. it is a great driving car, but we never take it anywhere together. it rides so firm that it is not comfortable for the passenger(the wife). so most evenings and weekends it just sits in the garage. 2 yrs old and 24k miles on it.

Paid $28,000 for my 2005 DC. Most of the options I have installed myself. Currently towing a Four Winns boat, loaded weight about 3300-3500lbs. Little sluggish on hills but overall very happy.

Robscar, go to Towncountrytoyota.com, and check out the internet deals under new inventory. Just select the truck with the options that you would like, color, etc. and it will show you the MSRP, invoice, their selling price, options, etc. I made my deal with Anthony.
One of the big reasons, that I bought my truck, was that it was the Double Cab,........ like a Truck and a Car in the same vehicle. I needed a truck, as a homeowner, and a car for my grandchildren. I chose the Tundra for its quality and size, and safety for my grandchildren as compared to the 92 Toyota standard bed truck that I owned, it was very small in comparison.

I tow a loaded race car trailer behind my double cab. Approx 6500K+ lbs no sweat. Actually pulls this real well. Hills are a bit of a problem if they are long but otherwise tows very well. I also have the TRD suspension. Truck remains fairly level with a 400-500 lb tongue weight
