My dad went behind my mom's back and got the family a boat. Dunno what, but the Taco, with its 23** miles was volunteered to drag it around.
So, any tips/precautions?
Should I wait on towing witht he Taco, and tow witht he 4Runner instead?
Where can I get a 7-4pin adapter for the random 7 Pin connecter Yota put ont here?

As far as an adapter goes, I mentioned it to the dealer and got one for under $10. Looks a hell of a lot nicer than the old one I rigged up with some spare parts. Nobody will break your chops if you get a factory made one instead of a homemade job, if you know what I mean.
Be sure the boat trailer has brakes if it is over 1000# or whatever Toyota says in your owner's manual.

WalMart ~8$
Just keep your ATF freshy if your towing it alot.
edit: DO be sure to use an adapter rather then trying to adapt the factory wiring (if this thought were to enter your mind for some reason). Cause in a few years when you get some sleds and a nice enclosed fun hauler - you'll be glad you have that 7 wire plug on there
this was over fourth. damn xr pulled that fulled loaded (about 4500lbs) boat not problem at all........here;s the kicker............from the bumper! i looked under the bumper and it looks just as sturdy as my dads tundra's where his hitch it mounted so i figured what the heck. oh, and those stoptechs did a nice job of helping stop the truck since i didnt have any wiring (trailer brakes).

4500lbs from the bumper.... hmm... anyone find that bumper on the freeway in their travels? 3500lbs max load on that before you start to cause damage. 350lbs tongue weight as well. 4500lbs trailer means properly loaded 450lbs tongue weight. I wouldn't do that very many times with the bumper or you will lose it eventually.

You can tow by the bumper but after a while all the holes will egg out
and your bumper will be loose not matter how hard you tighten it.
also it will sag. How do I know? Experience. We owned a hauling business.
If you are running a 4 pin connector then you do not have trailer brakes
which is just flat out dangerous. Unless the trailer has hydralic disc brakes which works off of the forward momentum
of the trailer as you stop.We got
pushed down a hill and off the road because we had no trailer brakes and the truck could not stop it.

A couple weeks ago I rented a 5x8 uhaul trailer to move my stuff for a temp move, also to see if it would be big enough for everything. Next weekend I plan on renting the same size trailer to move everything to NC. Ive gotten rid of some stuff and had the trailer pretty packed and it got up to speed with no problems. Actually I got behind a couple slow pokes so after about 4 cars passed us both I threw it down into 3rd and it took off like it wasnt even towing. I got a few wide-eyed stares as well while I was passing them! While braking you could feel the trailer but it wasnt too bad. Ive towed before with various sized vehicles up to the 5 ton military trucks. The only thing I noticed of course is with the shorter wheelbase it doesnt take much to oversteer while backing up. With your long bed that should make it a little easier.
I highly recommend using the Toyota OEM towing kit. Its built a lot better than the aftermarket one I had installed on the 04 Taco. As far as the adapter I picked up a multi one from a local RV shop. It goes to the 4 pin and also the 6 pin. So between the 3 different connectors I should be covered with whatever trailer I tow. The adapter was only $20. The only concern is having some greasebag rip it off while stopping at a rest area or whatever.
I barely have over 3000 miles now. Im not sure about how long you are supposed to wait before towing but I think as long as it has over 500 miles (engine should be "broken" in by then), check tightness of everything, and you take it easy with it you should be fine.
