Question Headers voiding warranty...

If a dealership was able to prove that your headers did cause a malfunction with your engineyou could loose your warranty, correct? I think so..............soooo what possibel damage could result from putting headers on my Tundra? Are headers a risky mod? Can anyone raise concerns or put my mind at ease. Now that we have the new VVTi engine does that change things. Has anyone had any problems along these lines?

Thanks for anyones input!!

This is all speculative, but suppose the header introduced a leak that altered the measurements of the oxygen sensor. THe oxygen sensor then gets read by the engine computer and the computer leans the air /fuel mixture, and the motor siezes.

Again, I'm not saying that this will or can happen, but that it's up for speculation.

As an aside:
Headers being typically hand fabricated, with tubes coming together into a collector and then getting welded, are more prone to mfg defects than an exhaust manifold, which is typically a casting. Castings are largely defect free due to the scrutiny placed on the mold that will be spitting out millions of parts.

Hmmm... that brings up a question. If the stock "casted" manifolds are that much better than aftermarket headers, then "why" are some TS.com members reporting problems with the stock manifolds developing cracks?!

Just curious... .

The stock manifolds, at least on my 03, are not cast, but welded tube.

My point exactly... seems (jeddclampette) thinks that the stock manifolds are "cast" (not to disagree with him... some may be), but that's why I raised the question in the first place.

Thanks...

Would dealer installed TRD headers void the warranty? - I think not.

Quality headers are a true upgrade and should not effect the warranty.

wrong. TRD headers are covered under the factory warranty WHEN installed by an authorized dealer... JBA headers are NOT.

If an aftermarket part leads to the failure of a stock part, the manufacturer is NOT required to warranty the stock part.

If they can provide evidence, that a prudent person would find reasonable, that the aftermarket part/mod was related to the failure of the stock part (and the stock or unmodified part would probably not resulted in failure) then they are not required to warranty it.

Default mmmm hmmmm

Maybe I should pose the questions this way...

Have any members had bad experiences with their Tundras after installing JBA headers? Seems like JBA has a great reputation on this site, am I right?

ZERO problems with my JBA's or my Tundra with about 1400 miles on the headers and about 40K on the truck.

Default headers maintanence

How is the maintenence on your headers. I heard from others that you have to retorque the header bolts once a month. Is this true .

Today had both O2 sensors replaced under the extended warranty for O2 sensors and I have headers which were just installed last month the dealer had no problem with replacing both sensors in fact they said having the headers made the change out easer

you didn't read my post. The headers didn't cause your O2 sensors to go out, so they still warrantied the work...

I have not even looked at them since they were installed.
No leaks - No problems.

We did use all new OE gaskets and upgraded nuts and bolts.
I don't have a clue what kind of nuts and bolts - I just know they work

just vhad the recall lower balljoint replacement on my tundra, at the same time they did my rotor replacement, they also changed passenger side o2 sensor, all under warranty, even tho my truck has 22500 miles and is 3 years and 8 months old basicaly warranty is over but they did it after me argueing. i just installed jba headers last month purchased on a group buy, there was no questions about the headers, tells me they liked them better tha the crapy exhoust manifold that it came with.

i cant see what could happen for headers to void any warranty, short of a faild intall like overdoing the nuts and cracking your heads, no one would warranty stupidity
