Default Weighed my truck

I am looking at getting a travel trailer and wanted to know what I could tow. Weighed my truck at the scales today. 2005 DC 4x2 SR5. Added a Hellwig, bug deflector, wheel to wheel westin nerfs and an Access bed cover. Weights are without me in the truck and a 1/2 tank of gas.

So here's my math:

11,800 GCWR -
5,000 truck (weighed) -
500 lbs of water bags (us) -
500 lbs of wood/bikes/gen set in bed

That gives me an actual tow limit of 5,800 lbs.

Next thing to worry about is GVWR of the truck (6,600 lbs).

5,000 lbs truck +
1,000 cargo (humans and other stuff) +
500 lbs hitch weight =

6,500 lbs That looks good as well. A WDH should displace some of that to the trailer.

Axles:

Rear GAWR - 3,760

weighed - 2,320
Hitch - 250 (1/2 of hitch weight w/ WDH)
Cargo - 600 (60% of total)=

3,170

Front GAWR: 3500

Weighed - 2720
Hitch - 250
Cargo - 400

3,370

If my math is right, I am good with all the limits. Seems like the limiting weight will be the GVWR.

The trailers I am looking at are 5,000 lbs GVWR or less (hybrid TT).

I think I'm ok. Thoughts?

Tom

Good math. I think your well in the ballpark.

I'm towing a Weekend Warrior superlight that is about 5300lbs loaded with my 05 tundra 4X4 DC. It tows the load well with two adults and 2 medium sized dogs. I wouldn't go heavier though.

Default Math is good

Your analysis is solid and properly done. Your truck will safely handle and have reasonable performance at elevations under 5000 feet with a 5300 lb (or lower) GVWR trailer.
