So I am hearing lots of horror stories about renting trailers from U-Haul. What are my other options as far as one-way enclosed trailer rentals?

I rented a U-Haul last month, and I didn't have any problems. The only thing that was a bit unscrupulous was the "U-Haul Adapter" that you need to hook up to standard wiring. Their trailers aren't wired to hook up to to normal plugs so an adapter is required. Since it was only $3 I didn't make an issue of it, but you can see where this is not the right way to do business.Originally Posted by hujorgan1

With just a trailer I'm sure U Haul will be fine. There is not that much they can screw up. Just don't use them for a truck. Budget or Penske would be a much better choice.
Are you looking for a one-way rental or local? There are ussually local rental places that will rent you the same trailers as U-Haul as long as it is a local rental! I have rented a trailer from U-Haul and towed it from NE to AZ roundtrip and had 0 probs!

Here's my problem with U-Haul trailer rentals: Twice now I have reserved a U-Haul trailer to carry my band's equipment - reserved several weeks in advance - and both times I got there and there were no trailers to be had. They were nice enough to call around and find one, but the closest trailer was 50 miles away both times.
This time I am looking for a trailer to use to move. My schedule will not allow for the surprise of not having a trailer even though I reserved one. So, I am looking for alternatives - one-way or round-trip (will be making several trips back and forth - hauling an empty trailer back is not optimal, but I'll do it).

I would like to know where to find a reliable trailer rental place too.
My experience: Trailer was not available.
Reservation made no difference.
Finally got one 4 hours late.
Had to drive 100 miles to get it.
Had to buy their light adapter for $30.
Plus: The 6x12 covered was near new and flawless. excellent surge brakes and pulled nicely behind the Tundra.
$.02

Ditto.
A month ago I needed a car trailer. I asked anyone I knew to borrow one to try and save $$$.
My U-haul experience from Jul-03:![]()
*They're extremely understaffed and terrible to their employees.
*Reservations are not promises. They say "We'll call you when it's available, if it becomes available." When I had to move, I didn't have that kind of time.
*A/C doesn't mean Air Conditioned. I don't know what it means, but my supposed A/C truck had no Air Conditioning. In this neck of the woods 100+ degrees is the avg summer temp; air conditioning is not a choice it's a must.
*They're expensive.
If you're moving, try Budget. They have both trucks and trailers.
Just adding my two cents also.
