I know that you are not allowed to drop less than 5 links (5 links between the hook and the u bolt) when using Reese trunion bar wd.

I have installed the reese dual cam and have a quesiton. Can I drop less than 5 links now because of the additional length of the clevis? As long as I allow length (1 link?) between the cleavis and trailer frame. Thoughts?

Actually, you want to drop fewer links (more links under load). There was a very long thread on rv.net helping a couple of members decipher why their cams were breaking in their dual cam setup. The best explanation is there in the towing forum under a sticky. Here's the link:

I would paste it, but it is huge. I have found no other information that does a better job of explaining the dual cam setup and what can cause premature failure. I have mine set up for 4 links hanging (7 links under load) and it works very well.
