Default first tow

After a year or so lurking here and sites like edmunds and MSN auto reveiws we bought our 06 Tundra DC 4X4.Put 500 miles on it changed the oil with Castrol and a Wix filter and towed our bassboat to Canada.Bout 475 miles to Westport Ontario.Used the information learned here about keeping the tranny locked up to keep the heat down. Our boat weighs 3500-4000 lbs so we're well within limits.I was pleasantly surprised at the truck's performance.Came out of a 99 Dodge Cummins, with the weight and gearing difference the Tundra did a comparible while much quieter and smoother job.Used one extra tank of fuel but Mommy and I were not "beat up" as before.I know they're two different animals but I expected having to do more "power planing" for the hills. Anyway just my 2 cents but as it stands now Tundra is a keeper! Mike

Did the rear of the truck sag?

I recently towed my friend's boat from Belleville to Toronto (see my pics), fairly big boat, but the trailer is really well balanced so I didn't have a lot of tongue weight.

I did have a problem with wind pushing me around.

I thought it probably would so I took some height readings with a level trailer front to back. There was a two inch difference 'tween truck and trailer so with a two inch drop hitch I went with a one inch lift ball, worked out 'dead nut".Make sure to top off gas tank and figure in the extra weight you may have in the truck, with a truck that rides this well we need to do our part when we put it to work.I could hook anything up to the Dodge but it was little more than a farm impliment compared to the Tundra.

So far, regardless what I've towed with the Tundra, I've been impressed at how well it handles pulling.

I used to have an F150 ext cab 4x4 with 5.8 L, and towed a lot of things with it, but I think the Tundra is much better.

I had a car sitting on a trailer, the tires had gone flat on the trailer, and I couldn't get close enough to fill them with air. They had also sunken into the ground. I hooked up the Toyota, put it in 4wd low, and it pulled the trailer like it was sitting on dry pavement. It pulled it so easily, I got out of the truck to see if the hitch had torn free.

I had a similar situation with the F150, you'd swear I was driving up a steep hill, I kept pushing the gas pedal harder and harder and the motor made more noise, but I wasn't moving.

These are really good trucks, and I'd never go back.
