Default Should I Switch From A Voyager To A Prodigy/How Difficult?

Since everyone here seems to believe that the Prodigy is such a superior brake controller I am thinking of changing the Voyager controller that the trailer dealer installed with the Prodigy controller. So, I have 2 questions: Is the 1 year old Voyager worth changing? What is involved in removing the Voyager & installing the Prodigy? Thanks

The Voyager is a very good traditional type inertial controller. As long you tow on mostly level ground (think Florida), it'll work about as well as Prodigy (which uses solid state accelerometers and is immune to the effects of hills on braking force). But since you live in WA and probably will be towing on hilly/mountainous terrain, yes you will notice substantially more proportional braking anytime you are going uphill or downhill when applying the brakes. Is that worth around $105~$125? My answer would be yes....especially since you undoubtedly can ebay the Voyager and get around $50 (maybe more) for it.

Almost nothing. Both use the same Tekonsha wiring plug so no rewiring will be needed. There might be a difference in mounts.

I replaced a Voyager with a Prodigy. It is worth it. The Voyager was finnicky to adjust because it cared if it was level. Once set up, it worked almost as well as a Prodigy. I say almost because never felt it worked well all the time. Hills were an issue, but it was just too sensitive at slow speeds and not aggressive enough at high speed. And if you bumped it, you had to re-adjust.

Then I got a Prodigy when I got my new trailer. Sweetness. Set and forget. Angle it, bump it, who cares. The boost feature is very nice. I run boost 2 for hwy driving and boost 1 for city. It just does exactly what it's supposed to without a lot of fuss.

If the original install of the Voyager used the included Tundra pigtail, then just order the Prodigy with a Tundra wiring adaptor. Should be plug and play.

Thumbs up Re: Should I Switch From A Voyager To A Prodigy/How Difficult?

Prodigy is THE BEST. Should plug right into connector at back of unit. Works well in mountainous as well as other. I had the voyager and changed over. Towing #5000 with Jeep Cherokee, just got 2006 Tundra and moved the prodigy over to it. Direct plugin, no hassles.

I too switched fr one to the other. I didn't think, from my research, that the difference would be that much, but it was.

The Prodigy is significantly smoother.

I still prefer different boost levels in the city vs. on the highway, but it's still a simple, one-click op.

The swap is easy. The two use the same four wires and the same four colors.
