Default How much can I tow with my 2001 Toyota Tacoma v6 TRD 2DW 4Door Atuomatic??

Hi, I joined the group to see if anyone could help with my towing questions. I want to tow a trailer/toy hauler with quads and I'm not sure if the truck can really handle it with the follow information. I was hoping someone would have insight.

My truck: 2001 Toyota Tacoma v6 TRD 2DW 4Door Automatic

What I have heard: GCVW should not exceed 9,000#

As I understand, my Totota unloaded weight is 3,462# (not to exceed 5,100#). If I am fully fueled have 3 of us in the truck, a small quad & 100# of misc items that puts me to 4,272# in the Toyota.

Now I want to pull a toyhauler or one of those combo units out there.

So here's what I want to know. Having 4,272# on the Toyota, how much trailer with equipmet can I tow????

I plan to have a load stabilizer, swaybar, braking unit & transmition cooler installed if this helps, otherwise it's just the stock v6 engine.

Any & all help is appreciated.

You can probably pull up to a 3,000 - 3,500 Lb. trailer... but it will be a noticable load, especially on hills and I wouldn't recommend towing for a long distance. To tow more than this, you really need a V8 (ie Tundra). 2,000 Lbs or less would be a nice pull for your truck.

A V8 Tundra with with a newer stronger 5 speed auto would be the only way to go for a Toy Hauler. I have a 07 Tacoma with a bigger V6 and stronger Transmision than an 01 Tundra, it's also lighter with A higher 11,100 lbs GVWR and a Tow Rating of 6,500 lbs, also much higher than a V6 Tundra. And if I were shopping for a Toy Hauler I would buy as light as possible and it would still be very close to my trucks limits when loaded. What I am trying to say is, buy a new tow rig. A 05 + V8 Tundra or a 05+ V6 Tacoma would be doable. But wouldn't an 07 be ideal... if it's in your budget and if you really need a new tow vehicle.

Oh sorry, I was thinking you had a Tundra... GVWR and Truck weight seemed a little low to me. Yea, I even more so stick to what I was saying.

Whether you'd be legal or not I can't answer but, I can tell you this:

I have a flat bed trailer (No brakes)1k lbs., 1k worth of motorcycles and quad, about 1k lbs. of camping gear and water, 550 lbs worth of people and dogs in the truck. I used to two tow with my 97 V6 4runner (now we're towing with the V8 DC tundra 4x4)and while I wasn't the fasted off the line I was able to pull at the speed limit going over the Sierras. You just need to tow smart and give yourself a nice cushion from the guy ahead of you.
