Mazda3 MPS takes 4WD Scalps at Targa
After three days and 1,200km of intense competition, the storming Mazda3 MPS of Targa pro Rick Bates is officially the fastest showroom spec car in Targa, and team-mate Alister McRae is hot on his heels. Bates and McRae increased their lead in Targa Tasmania's Showroom 2WD Competition over ARC champion Simon Evans and his Toyota TRD Aurion. Evans is now more than five minutes adrift of Bates and four minutes behind McRae. Bates added the prized scalp of the leading Showroom 4WD contender Tony Warren's Mitsubishi Evo 9 during today's eight torturous stages which saw a number of more fancied contenders crash out - including a crowd favourite Chevrolet Corvette Z06.
