RSS Hyundai Elantra named "Best Compact Car for the Money" by U.S. News and World Report

The 2009 Hyundai Elantra, was named "Best Compact Car for the Money" by U.S. News and World Report. The "Best Car for the Money" awards are designed to help U.S. customers find the best car values at affordable prices without sacrificing quality and design. "The case of the Hyundai Elantra, the 'Best Compact Car for the Money,' proves what many have been saying for years: Honda and Toyota should watch their backs because Hyundai is making not just economical cars, but very good ones," said Jamie Page Deaton, editor, U.S. News and World Report. The "Best Car for the Money" awards are based on data from U.S. News and World Report's online automotive rankings evaluated with the opinions of the automotive press and IntelliChoice that ...

I used to be (and am still) VERY pro Toyota and Honda (some Nissans) only.

However, in 2007, we bought my daughter a new Hyundai Elantra (year the new body style started) and that car was super cheap and it has been amazing car.

I never, never thought that I would say this ... but it is better than the 2007 Civic that my buddy bought.

Since my life's job was "speciality vehicles .. ie military and ect.. I did some research on this vehicle and Hyundai in general. The reason that they can build such a good car at such a cheap price is the indirect and direct subsidies from the Korean govt.

I hate to say this ... but, if you want a great car at a great price .... the Elantra is it.

I've got a 2002 kia optima which is made by hyundai. It's comparable to the elantra (think ford/mercury). So far I've put 137,000 miles on it. We bought it because of the price and the warranty (100k powertrain). So far I've had to change filters, tires, and one battery. No mechanical failures at all.

The interior is fairly cheap, or was in 02, but it gets the job done and so far it has the lowest total ownership cost of any vehicle I've ever owned.
