October 12, 2006 – Georgetown, KY - Toyota marked the start of production of hybrid-powered vehicles in the United States with the donation of a Toyota Camry hybrid to the Yellowstone Park Foundation.
"Today, we are happy to announce the donation of one of the very first Kentucky-built Camry Hybrids to the Yellowstone Park Foundation for use in the park for environmental programs," said Don Esmond, senior vice president – automotive operations, Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A., Inc. during ceremonies marketing the start of the Camry hybrid at Toyota Motor Manufacturing – Kentucky.
One of the very first Camry hybrids produced here will join four Toyota Prius hybrids donated to the foundation in 2004 in recognition and support of Yellowstone's National Park's commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. The Camry will be used by staff to assist with programs that benefit the Park's three million visitors annually.
The mission of the Yellowstone Park Foundation is to fund projects and programs that protect, preserve and enhance Yellowstone National Park. In 2005, Toyota donated $1,000,000 to the foundation, plus additional consulting support, for the Old Faithful Visitor Education Center.
