Note to editors: The following statement in response to the President’s State of the Union Address can be attributed to Josephine S. "Jo" Cooper, group vice president, government and industry affairs, Toyota Motor North America.
January 23, 2007 - Washington, DC - The President has proposed an ambitious vision to promote fuel conservation and strengthen our nation's energy security. Toyota supports the direction of these goals and looks forward to actively working with the Administration, Congress and all stakeholders toward achieving viable solutions. Toyota's accomplishments in advanced technologies are already helping move toward these goals. Hybrids remain at the core of our strategy for advanced technology vehicles because they are a fundamental technology that can be teamed with a wide range of other promising fuels and technologies, such as high-tech gas engines, clean diesel, bio-diesel, ethanol, or plug-in hybrid technology, to maximize their efficiency. As a leader in hybrid technology, and through our research today and our products tomorrow, Toyota will continue to play a leadership role in establishing a new generation of technologies for the future
