Truck Bed Tonneau CoversDiscussions about Truck Bed Tonneau Covers.
This is a discussion thread titled "Just got a BakFlip Tonneau Cover and love it", within the Truck Bed Tonneau Covers forum, part of the Technical & Vehicle Assistance Forums category.
I Just got a BakFlip Tonneau Cover and love it. I was debating between a cap, a soft cover, or a one-piece hinged hard cover when I found this one. I like the way it folds partially up into any 1 of 4 panels or all, and is locked down and secure when the tailgate is locked. Easy to take off if wanted, but can be folded up for full access to the bed and was easy to install and/or remove. I don't meant to sound like an ad, but I've become a fan.
Does your truck have the standard OEM rails and, if so, can you use them with the BakFlip? When it's folded all the way forward you have zero use of your rear window, right?
gasmeister, you are correct about not being able to see anything with it in the up pos. but I wouldn't wanna drive too fast with it like that. And you cannot use the rails with it. But if you can deal with stationary tie down points. Someone on here had a mod for that using eye bolts that take place of the rails (from fastenal).

I've got the bakflip too on my CM and it works out fine. I posted some pics a while back. Not a bad tonneau for the price.

Did you install it your self and is this the one you have to drill two holes. Is the foldacover different form the bak flip?
Thanks.
AKam
With the bakflip, you drill 2 holes, but not in the truck. The holes are drilled in the supplied rails that clamp on. No holes are drilled in the truck.

Bakflip has a model for those of us with the factory Rails. You have to drill into the side of the bed. Not a big deal to install, You will have to modify your Sliding tiedown units. Mine had the big round black screw downs. I removed the knob and installed a Wing Nut with a fender washer. Works and looks great. I ended up putting a screw and nut assembly to hold down the sides instead of the supplyed self tapping screws.
Tom
PS you will have to run a M8 x 1.25 Die on the Tiedown stud after you remove the black knob.
Yes,the fold a cover is covered in aluminum instead of plastic, and seems to be much more durable. The Bakflips have had problems with the weatherstripping coming loose.
The back flip looks like a nice piece. I went with the undercover only because it cost me $585 shipped to Idaho.I will add that I am very pleased with the fit and finish. With all the diff. type and brands it is a hard choice.
I'm seriously considering this cover but have serious reservations in three areas.
1. ) In installation. How do I drain without either drilling the box or cutting the bed liner (it's a toyota bed liner and is under the rail.) I have a hole in the liner at the front tiedown but can find no drain. The rubber plugs that one person used are more centered and I'm relucantant to drill them and concerned that the liner pressure on the hoses will close off the hose. The stake pocket hole is well above the access hole to the tiedowns.
2.) The one year prorated warantee is not appealing.
3.) I'm concerned that the tonneau's rails will be damaged when I transport large items as they protrude 1" inside the bed.
2007 crew cab with bed liner.
suggestions appreciated.
Item 1 is the deal maker. If I can's solve that then I'll look to another cover.
Installation was easy and took under an hour. The rails clamp onto the bed sides, and the hardcover panels lay in the rails. 2 holes are drilled into a plate at the top of the rails and the top of the cover is bolted to the rails. Cost was $636.70 with free shipping. Check out their web site for more info.
