I bought an Armor Lid back in Nov 07. I have absolutely no complaints. No leaks under normal rain conditions, but a couple of weeks ago we were in Corpus Christi a storm came blowin' through, news said 70 mph winds (and it looked it), I got a tiny bit of water on the driver side (which was the windward side) I was pretty impressed. I thought it might flex a little bit more than it did because it doesn't have the rigidity of the undercover. I like the ability to remove it quickly, which I've done a few times.
And I saved $200 over the undercover and well worth it.

Hey all, I know I'm bringing up an old post but there aren't many posts online regarding this topic and I would like to give anybody comparing the 2 products my personal review. I am not writing this to offend anybody but only to give some feedback to somebody contemplating the cheaper cover over the more expensive cover.

When I was shopping around I was told that both covers are pretty much the same, same fit, same texture, same specifications. With that being said, I recently purchased the Armorlid because of the $200.00 difference (since they were the basically the same) and I would like to say now after owning the Armorlid for several months now, you do get what you pay for.

I live in San Diego, CA where the temperature average is around +/- 80-degrees. My Armorlid does swell or buckle as mentioned in the above posts, at times as much as 3/4 of an inch. Meaning in the heat of the day the flat surface domes up more than in cooler weather. (When I was shopping around, I too heard there was an issue with these buckling early on, but the manufacturer had fixed the problem in the newer ones. I bought mine from a dealer and not off ebay and was told that I do have the newer model.)

In addition, the locks are not very good quality. As mentioned I have only owned the cover for several months and both locks will no longer lock. I don't even use the locks that much but, yet they open freely in the locked position as well as the unlocked position.

(Update: The manufacturer/distrubutor seems to stand behind their product and they are working with me to resolve the issues. I will report back on the end result.)

I would like to note that I have never owned the Undercover, but since I installed the Armorlid, have seen many Undercovers on the road and in parking lots to compare it to. The Armorlid fits ok, it's just not as tightly fitted as the Underscover. The Armorlid has a rough texture finish and the Undercover has smoother texture finish, which IMO looks nicer. All in all the Armorlid does serve it's purpose and doesn't look bad, just not as nice as the Undercover.

Bottomline, if had a chance to purchase another cover, I would definitely spend the extra cash to get a nicer cover, whether it be undercover or a fiberglass cover.

i'll offer my experience too..

mine has been on for over a year...about a year and half. always kept outside. in texas. 100-110 degree summers. no leaks. mine doesnt buckle or shrink or do anything but sit there. my locks work fine... i had one that got hard to turn but it was a simple adjustment. i installed mine myself. i do keep mine locked 90 percent of the time but sometimes i do leave it unlocked but you do have to turn the lock/catch so it holds the lid down or it might open. i have forgotten a couple of times and it hasnt opened on me but it could. even when they are in the "closed" position, and unlocked they dont work their way unlocked for me. my wife can even open and close it easily.

its been through several high wind storms and a hail storm with no leaking etc. i did have one time it did get wet through the gap in the tailgate but i just put a weather strip there and it stopped. i dont see how it could leak on the tops of the bed rails mine fits so well there. i do have an even gap around mine on both sides and tailgate, i have heard of others having issues with it rubbing, thats bcause it wasnt installed right to begin with.

i do agree, however, that the undercover has a smoother finish. the one thing i dislike about mine is the road grime and dirt that settles on the surface and gets held onto by the rougher texture...morning dew or light rains will cause it to black streak down the sides of the bed which shows up nasty on my white. jsut have to wash it when that happens though.

i have stood on mine to wash the cab and even install the sirius antenna on the roof etc. i dont feel it giving when i stand or walk on it and im ~225 lbs. it is slick so i dont reccomend doing it w/o due care of course.

all in all, ill gladly save the 200 bucks and get somethign that works just as well but might hold onto the dirt a little more and have a slightly rougher texture, and i will admit the rougher texture does look a little "cheaper" than the undercover but not enough to bother me.

a co worker bought one for his chevy and the only thing he doesnt like is he had to remove the tailgate top trim that stuck out, now he has exposed screw holes there and last i checked he never got the other style tailgate lip that wasnt so wide at the top...darn GMs haha but his locks well and keeps the elements out too just like mine. and i know its not a temperature thing...if it was going to buckle in the heat it woudl do so here....haha. i do know they had some early batches that were bad that were liquidated thorugh various vendors via ebay and the like but geez that was last year... i was told those issues were taken care of and like mine, i believe them.

We have sold literally hundreds of the Armorlids... as well as the Undercover...

Is the Armorlid quite as nice? No. But then again a Cadillac is nice than a Chevy if you want to pay the difference. Either will get the job done... Wait I'm on a Toyota site... I meant to say a Lexus is nicer than a Toyota...lol

The only reason I bought my undercover was for huricane evacuation's which I havn't done since putting on the cover. A co=worker has a armorlid and the hinges rusted and it has faded. Will my undercover do the same in these brutal, humid, hot New Orleans summers, probably over time but I figured it's not like I buy a cover all that often & hopefuly my undercover will last a good while & not fade for a long time Who Knows? Been about a year & still looks brand new & works great. A little water will drip in the bed when I open it when it's wet but not enough to bother me.
