Default Hinged Soft Tonneau vs. Undercover

This is my first post and let me start off by saying that this site is great!

Have a three week old Silver Sky 5.7L DC TRD Offroad and love it. No problems to date except for a nick in the paint on the hood. Arrgggg!

I've owed a couple F-150s and a Chevy pickup and love my new Tundra. Puts those trucks to shame.

I've owed a Sportmaster hinged soft tonneau on my other trucks and loved it for the convience and easy access to the bed. I have had a hell of a time and got a run around from Sportmaster and they are having a supplier issue with their parts and my cover has been on backorder for three weeks now. I am about ready to tell them to take a hike because I am pissed at their service.

My questions is this (I have already searched this site):

Does anyone know of another hinged soft tonneau cover of similar quality?

Also, I have good things about the hard undercover tonneau but have heard that it scratches the tailgate. Some people have expressed this issue and others have had great success with cover.

Does the Undercover really scratch your paint? This is my biggest worry with this cover.

Thanks for your input.

Rut

I just got an undercover this week for my Crewmax Limited. I do have the factory rail and tailgate protector and a bed liner. I can not see where it will rub any of my paint. It works great, it is light and it was only $589 installed. There is another cover with more texture but basically the same as the undercover, it is called an Armor Lid (http://armorlid.com/). I did not like the clips to hold it in, the undercover mounting brackets and removal system seems to be more solid.

So far I am very pleased with the undercover and would buy it again.

Another option which a lot of people are happy with is the BakFlip. It is a foldable hard cover. That is what I will be going with hopfully very soon.

I have an Undercocver tonneau...It's GREAT. Have had it on about 2 months....I have seen some really faint scratches in the clear coat on the back drivers-side corner, near the tailgate...I am just going to get some of that thin stick on foam and put it in that spot. It's a great cover...I can put it on and take it off myslef, because it is only about 50 pounds. looks great on my black Tundra too. Also, I think Undercover is paintable, if you want it to match your truck.

well since my post got deleted by a mod, ill repost it here. armorlid is another one thats a good one, less moeny than undercover but very close in design etc. i have one and as long as any cover is properly mounted and adjusted, its not going to scratch.

y couldnt this stay in the new tundra forum?? why did it have to be moved here, if its an accessory for a new truck then why cant it stay there? if someone posts about a subwoofer box for a new crewmax does it get mvoed to electronics? come on mods, leave it alone.

Thanks for the replies guys.

If Sport Master doesn't come through for me this week...I'll probably be looking elsewhere. The hinged Extang cover seems to be what I am looking for.

Does the hinged Extang cover keep the bed fairly dry? Also, when the cover is opened when it is raining, does water run off the cover into the bed?

Thanks for your help.

Well Sport Master didn't come through for me with my hinged cover. Just wanted to share my really bad experience with anyone in case you were thinking about ordering one of their covers. I basically told them to forget it and will never order one of their products again. I called an Undercover distributor today and they will install it tomorrow for $600. It seems like I should have went with my intial thoughts and just went with the Undercover. Well..maybe the wait was worth it!

Probably too late to post this but I have an Extang Full Tilt tonneau cover on my '02 access cab and love it! I am selling the truck and looking for a new cover for my double cab Tundra. I came across a Sport Masters slant side cover for $50 on craigslist and will probably go with that. The Extang Full Tilt was hinged and could also come off the truck completely in about 2 minutes if I had to haul something higher than the bed rail. The cover can also roll up with the frame still in place and velcro at the cab end. I would get another full tilt but the $50 compared to $350 is appealing.
