I just got an email about Toyota now offering a tonneau cover, however nothing on Tundra accessories page. Anyone have any information on this? I'm close to pulling the trigger on a leer to replace my truxport low profile after some a--hole cut it at a commuter train parking lot.
which leer cover are you getting? what's the price?
I'm thinking about going with hard retractable cover, probably PE JR, with explorer rails. I just wish the full metal JR cost as much as the reg JR costs now, that is $850, not $1250. if I had a chance to order FM JR for $1100, I'd probably go with that one
If I go with a Leer I’m stuck with a 700 series per cap world and leer's site since I have the long bed version of the double cab. I like the 800 however it only comes in the 5.5 crew max size and the 6.5 double and regular cabs.
Without any options and installation they quoted me $900 for it painted in silver sky and clear coated.
I was planning on putting a deposit on the leer cover this weekend with an expected delivery by end of august. After I got the email about the Toyota one which I attached I’m considering holding off so I can get some idea on when it will be available and for how much.
Toyota just came out with an accessory tonneau. I just got the bulletin yesterday. I'm not sure who makes it as I just glanced at the paperwork. List is ~$1500 I think.

I also received an email about the Tundra accessories one of which was a hard tonneau cover. I had already deleted the email so have been searching around to try to find info on it. I didn't see anything on the Toyota site. Does anyone know where I can find info on it?
I got the same email, and when I called my dealership, this is what I got:
$1495 painted to match and installed, Part # PT 2713407013. That's for a Radiant Red. Not sure if it's a different code for a different color. They're on backorder, and the parts guy said I'm better off going to a local car stereo/aftermarket accessory place to get a better deal. He couldn't tell me much about it other than it's a hard cover, and it has a locking mechanism.
I called another dealership, and that parts guy said nothing of that sort exists. When I told him I got an email from Toyota, he didn't believe me. I then gave him the part number, and he finally admitted that it was available, but he didn't seem much too enthusiastic about helping me out. I thanked him for his time and hung up. Needless to say, dealer #2 won't be getting any of my money, and dealer #1 ain't looking too good either. I want to see one of these with my own eyeballs before dropping a dime and a half on it, but no one seems to have one locally.
Anyone else???
Cheers!

We've got a PDF copy of the official brochure, some specs, and a mini-review.
Don't get your hopes up - it's pretty damned expensive. You can get something very similar for at least $400 less. If you don't care about being painted to match, you can go even lower.
I discussed this in another thread because I was considering buying one myself. The fact that it is plastic was appealing to me because of previous history with fiberglass units "caving in" and becomming a bird bath when the vehicle was parked.
A buddy of mine has one on his truck and I love the appearance. There is simply no comparison betweeen the finish of this unit compared to a fiberglass unit. Most of the fiberglass units that I have seen have noticeable orange peel in them. Because this one is molded in color, the finish is impecable.
We've taken it off of his truck a few times and I have to say that I love the quick release hinge system. With no tools; you simply remove the two struts, raise the tonneau up to about a 30 degree angle to disengage the hinges, and carry the tonneau away. Installation is just as easy.
But...I am always interested in hearing other peoples experience before I pull the trigger. Does anyone else have one? What are your thoughts? What do you like (or dislike) about it?
I've never had one of these and wasn't considering it until I saw the PDF a couple of weeks ago. How can fiberglass ones cost $400 (like mentioned above) when the snap-on types cost 600? From what I saw in the pdf, 1650 looked like a good deal, then Marks Toyota is offering 25% off list (I thought there is another thread on that discount), it seems like is could be a good affordable. If I do get one, I'll need to take the top off often for mulch and other stuff that won't fit in the bed with the lid on.
Duracover makes OEM tonneaus for Chevy and Nissan, and they also have the same tough abs plastic top with the snap on/snap off hinge setup. Considering it's less than half of list price (and install is easy enough), I would pitch it as an acceptable alternative.
Again, just so long as you don't care about color.
Otherwise, I hear what you're saying about fiberglass tonneau's - they don't look that great, they're heavy as can be, and they're just about the same amount of money.
