Im in the market for a bed cover and am wondering what you all thought about soft vs hard covers. So far Ive figured out that I want a trifold cover but am torn between the one from toyota (sparks has it), a lund genesis and the G2 Bak. I like the fact that price of the soft covers is half what the others are, but Im not sure how the looks will be. I thought I was set on the lund or toyota soft cover but on my way to work tonight I saw a dodge with a soft cover on it and it didnt look very good. Any advice or perhaps pics would be appreciated. Thanks fellas!

I can stand on my LazerLite hard cover...makes washing/waxing the roof a snap.
It also stays 100% dry underneath, and just my wife and I can take it on and off.

I do like yours and think it looks good. However, I dont feel like ponying up $1200+ for one. Plus yours is hinged and Im looking for the trifold type. If I went with the G2 Bak $800ish is plenty.

I have the Bakflip G2 and I am very happy with it for my needs. No separate lock and key, a bit more secure than the soft covers.
If a separate lock and key does not bother you, then take a look at the Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite and personal caddy. I like their personal caddy storage solution.

I got a Extang Trifecta (tri fold soft cover).. think I paid under $300 .. love it ... wanted a hard tri-fold model Fold-A-Cover G4 Elite ... I just couldnt justify the $750+ price tag ... not a drop of water gets into my bed with the Trifecta and I put it on in like 2 minutes, can be fully removed in the same time, to fold it takes about 5 seconds.

Soft covers are going to cost less than hard covers. Obviously, hard covers provide much better security. So, if security is important, save your money and get a hard cover. If security is not important, there are LOTS of soft covers on the market that are good covers, just don't get one that uses snaps.
I have a hard roll back system. Only cost me about $800. I installed it myself. Way easy to do, my buddya nd I did it in an hour. The cover can support up to 400 lbs, and it would take a lot of hard work to get into the bed. The name of the company that makes it is BAK Industries. Take a look. Hope this helps.

The lazor lite would have been my first choice, but price put an end to that thought. For the money the undercover is one heck of a good compromise. Lite weight, easy instalation, descent security, and good looks. Not as good looking as a laserlite, but good looking and good fit. It comes down to economics, undercover delivered 2/09 for 678$, half inch wrench ,tape measure ,installed in an hour, end of story.
Absolutely nothing as long as temps hover in the 60 degree and above range. I had an extang with snaps before. If it was winter and I had to take it off it mostly either stayed off until things warmed up or until I could sit it in the house for a night and loosen it up. I had a couple places in the leather start to tear from the stress of stretching it to connect those snaps. Had a couple snaps break because if you don't dab vasoline on them periodically they can sieze up in cold weather and be difficult to remove without breaking them.
Plus they can be hard on the fingers and its generally a PITA to undo 15 or 20 snaps every time you want to haul something and then try to get all those suckers refastened when you could just get a roll-up, folding cover, or hinged soft tonneau.
I have a Truxedo Truxport soft cover with velcro rather than snaps. It was $234. It works for me. I did not want a hard cover. I wanted a roll up cover for when I have to use my bed.

I went with the Extang solid fold. I wanted the hard cover for extra security and durability. Installs in minutes, folds in seconds, and if removed I can do it myself and stores away easily. I bought through a local 4X4 shop who was as cheap or cheaper than what I could find online. Besides it's always good to help out the local during this rough economy.
