Default Undercover Warpage?

I have been looking at tonneau covers. I have ruled out the bakflip due to the mixed reviews. I went to a local dealer and he said that there have been a few undercovers that were returned due to the sun/heat warping the cover. I have done some searching and have not found anything here about this issue. I am not sure if he is telling me the truth or just wants to sell me a fiberglass tonneau.

Anyone in really hot climates have heat warp issues? I am in Las Vegas, so it gets a little warm in the summer

I'm in South Florida. Constant sun and it was in the Mid 90's for almost all of July. Truck is outside in the sun every day all day and I've had Zero issues with my undercover's stability.

Sounds like the dealer is trying to upsell you with lies.

I have never seen it, but I have heard of it and I believe it's rare. Personally, it would not stop me from buying one, they are great covers for the price. Undercover is a good company and they do stand behind their product.

I suggest you call Undercover directly and inquire about warping due to heat. (866) 900-8800

Thanks for the info. He was selling the undercover for $875 and the Snugtop (base model) for $925. I think he is trying to get me to go for the fiberglass models. I told him that I could get it online for ~$690ish and he said "well you will have to find someone to install it". I am a ex-mechanic and can probably handle that.

I will give undercover a call today!

Yea, $875 is way up there. Around $650 - $680 is the going price although online dealers may be less. You won't have any problems with the installation. Just make sure the cover is positioned correctly. If it's off, you might rub your paint at the corners at the front (cab end) when the cover is opened.

It's a very easy install. You can easily do it yourself. I paid $675 delivered to my door that included a tailgate seal and a retractable bed divider. Prices may have changed since then but I can't imagine that much. Be sure to call them don't just order online they often give a better price over the phone.

Just follow the instructions exactly and it's a 30 min install.

I received two emails from Undercover. One was from what I think is over the southwest region. He said that they have been selling these covers to the SW for over seven years and haven't had any issues with warpage. He told me he was at SEMA this week and to give him a call if I had any additional questions or conderns. Good cust service!

Allow me to share my UC experience...

I had one of the first bathces made for the 07 Tundra, ordered it online and installed it myself following the included instructions..it made squeaking noises I could hear when the back window was down so I called them and they told me to take it to a local dealer to ensure I installed it correctly...come to find out my measurements were off and they adjusted it for me..by this time I had rubbed some of the paint off the truck but that was my fault...

It was still making noises and I called UC back and they told me it was the flap that is closest to the cab rubbing making the noise..I was skeptical but they sent me a new one, replaced it and still making noise..

Called back AGAIN and this time they sent a rep from GA to my house-he stopped along the way to visit various dealers-and the rep spent 2 hours replacing stuff and we finally determined it was the drivers side hinge squeaking that was driving me nuts...so he bought a can of lubricant, sprayed it and it fixed it for a little bit and then it came back..by this time I was so frustrated I took it off and left it in my garage..

Called UC AGAIN and this time they agreed to replace it under warranty and come to find out they had messed up the first batch they made and were replacing them under warranty..the place that did mine told me they had done 3 Tundra's already...so while it was at the shop-this shop also does Line-X and had Line-X'd my truck-suggested putting Line-X where the paint was rubbed off..they charged me $200 for that, which included taking the cpas off both sides and the tailgate..UC agreed to split the $200 with me so in the end I have a brand new cover and Line-X'd rails for $100..and my time but overall I am very pleased with the UC an the way they stood behind their product.

Yea, they are very good about backing their product. I saw an UC that was delaminating. The cover was not within the warranty period but UC replaced it with a brand new cover for free anyway.

As both a retail store and an online dealer I find it hilarious when dealer try to push the you will have to get it installed angle... They can easily meet the price of the online dealer because they typically get delivery from their distributor and don't pay freight. They just want to make a killing on it and are unwilling to give a little to get a little.

UC did have delamination issues on some covers a few years ago. They corrected them all though. There have been a few warpage issues but UC has taken care of it all for the customers.

Here's a pic of the delamination. We replaced this cover for the customer at no charge and without any problems from UC. There were a few covers that had this problem, but the problem was corrected (as mentioned by truckalter).

Just installed an undercover last week. Will post at end of summer to let you know. One summer in dusty oil refinery parking outside New Orleans will settle any warpage issues once and for all. The humid salt air will settle any fade issues also.
