Default Bakflip G2 and Bedrug purchase - review when they arrive

After reading nearly every thread I could find on the Bakflip G2, I decided to take a chance and get one. I am nervous of the quality, but frankly it's the only cover that fits my needs, I have to have 100% of the bed available, I have a low-pro toolbox up against the cab that sits a few inches below the edge of the bed, so the Bakflip will be perferct since I can flip it open to get to the toolbox.

I also ordered a full Bedrug kit too... it just looked so cool, had to have it. I'll post a review of these items in the appropriate subforums upon arrival. If the Bakflip is a good product now, I think a updated review is in order, so here's to hoping it is.

I've had my G2 for about 7 months without a problem-other than having to mount it 'just right' for it to latch properly. keeps the dust and rain out and coneals my cargo. Like it much better than a canopy. Especially when I have to get loads of dirt etc.

Luckily, I live in the desert so rain is not a concern at all, and it doesn't snow here, so the watertight feature is low on my list.

Pretty excited to see it work.

I have been looking at the bakflip since I bought my truck and it seems that they have improved their design over the last year or so. I may just get one soon. I like the folding feature vs. the solid type. I also live in a mild weather area with some rain in the winter/spring so slight water seepage isn't really a concern. Its good to know that they will fix it if it leaks though. I tired of the A**holes who think my truck bed is a trash can!!

Bakflup G2 - Day 1

I got my bakflip today, here's the highlights:

- install was cumbersome, but easy. 2 people would have been 10 times faster.

- it appears to be very well made so far. Granted, its fresh out of the box, but if I hadn't read the poor reviews of the G1, I would think this is a high quality product.

- it fits perfecty to my 2008 Tundra DoubleCab 6.5' bed

It really looks to be as good as I thought it would be. The effect won't be complete without the bedrug in it, but that will be here monday.

My toolbox won't fit in it. It fits in the bed, but the bakflip mounting hardware is too wide for the lid to open, but that's no big deal, I don't really need the toolbox anymore.

It's pretty cool. Makes me want to wire my tailgate lock to the door locks now...

Got the Bakflip G2 installed.
Got the Bedrug installed.
Did a DIY Tailgate lock/unluck actuator.

Loving that setup now! Everything was pretty easy. I just tapped the lock actuator up to the lock/unlock wire on the front passenger door, and it was easy as that.

Pretty awesome having a locking tailgate/bakflip and the bedrug. This setup is going to be so nice, especially not having to worry about the tailgate being unlocked or open, since it locks with the doors.

I'll say your biggest potential problem is going to be the Bakflip.

Yep... the BAKFlip doesn't have a good rep... they are also like herding cats when you need someone to fix a specific issue...

I will sell one if the customer must have it but it isn't my first choice...

I would never recommend them...

But occaisionally a customer has already decided that they want a certain item. I will tell them how I feel about the product but in the end if its what they want its their choice...

the Bakflip was the only cover that met the criteria I want, I read every review of the G2 I could find on this website and others, so I'm aware of the complaints, but I wanted complete access to the entire bed.

Will have to see how it actually holds up.

You are correct, its the only one that will fold all the way up and give 100% access without removing it...

Had the Bakflip G2 for 8 months now, through winter and now into summer, already had a few days over 100 degrees.

Everything is still 100% fine. I don't recommend touching the black metal for too long once it's been sitting in a parking lot for a few hours in the heat, but the cover and all the parts, rubber, hinging system, seals, everything is still just great.
