I am going to pay about 10% extra for buying it local, but I think that is worth not having to worry about screwing it up during shipping. Hopefully all goes well.
Here's why I chose it:
No modifications to the truck
No rails that have to stay on the truck
Flexibility in using the full bed by easily taking it off, like for hauling a motorcycle (someday)
how much did you pay if you don't mind was going to look into buying one after work today locally too

I think the hinge is pretty neat. It's not the typical piano hinge type. If I were to be critical, I think the only turn off to some degree is that it's not low profile. Also, the front thumb nuts are plastic, I think they should be more heavy duty. But, those things would not keep me from buying it. I think this totally removable hard folding cover is a great idea and a great design.
I tested one of these at a local store. I was interested, but when the cover was all the way shut, if I pulled and yanked on the rear panel, I could get the spring loaded handle clamps to sorta overextend and malfunction, and then I was able to open the cover even when it was supposed to be locked.
I am fairly confident that on a locked tailgate with this cover, I could get the cover open. you just have to push and yank on it and eventually those handles will get caught too wide open, and then you can open it.
is there anywhere i can get one of these for less than 750?

Just my experience, I didn't buy one.
I see your point, but it seems like it would be really hard to do on a full size cover. Lifting the cover only increases the spring tension. I don't think you could lift it up high enough to get an arm in there. Let's see what others say once they get their cover on the truck.

Check these guys out: I didn't buy there, but when I was looking before you could get a lower price with some discounts. Might need to call them or request a quote.
Got the cover put on today. I checked out the competition while I was in the dealer and I totally made the right choice for me. This thing is great - simple and durable. Nice work, Extang!
