Default Ice melting ideas...? Extang Solid Fold

This may be a crazy idea and I am looking for input. I have an Extang Solid Fold and am considering some ideas for melting the snow and ice off of it - like some type of heater/heating element. That way if we have freezing rain and icy snow I can always open it easily in the winter.

There are 3 aluminum panels, but I think there may be foam sandwiched between the top and bottom sides. If I put heat tape or heat trace on the bottom, do you think it would melt the snow above? Would 25 Watts per panel do the trick in cold weather? or should I just get some spray ice melt and do it from above?

Any ideas?

No real help from Extang. I'll think about it more and maybe look into installing something when it is warmer outside. This thing doesn't fit in my 1-car garage.

I am the engineering manager for Extang and was forwarded this topic.

Adding a limited amount of heat to the underside of the panels shouldn't cause any issues. The cover is designed to hold up to both extreme climate zones. Do not let it get over 200 Deg F

Thanks - your input is much appreciated. I'll look into the specs of any element that I should buy.
