Default 100% Water-Tight Tonneau Covers Available?

I have a 2006 4x4 DC Limited with the OEM bed liner installled.

What's the best tonneau cover out there which is 100% water-tight and does not need to cut the OEM bed liner and drill no holes for its installation?

Thanks for sharing your valuable experience!

You mean a plastic bedliner made by Toyota?

hi even the ARE LSII will eventually leak, but all you need to do is bring it back to where you got it, & have them reseal it.
they over lay about 3 to 4"'s over the side's. where other type's are thinner, and cheaper. as for vinyl or foldable types will eventually leak. over time.

no such thing as leak proof. they are all pretty good all fiberglass 1's. the snap close or velcro types, need at the least 1 or 2 arched bars, so the water doesn't build and than snap a few snap's, or release the velco and water goes in. your best bet is ARE or GLASSTITE.
but they are expensive.
the more you open & close the quicker they will fail.
i replaced my seal after 4 & 1/2 years, but i open & close it at least 10x a day. so i think 4+ years isn't to bad. and a replacement seal, is 80 with labor.

beware of cheap cap's, they worp, & crack, you can't lean them, or stand on them. there is a huge difference between the different companys out there. you get what you pay for. like i said i also have a AREII WITH A LIGHTED ARE WING, and rug under the cap, they also have lighting inside, and a auto open accessory's, etc.
good luck,
gorilla

My ARE has never leaked water, but hell, it doesn't rain here. It did let in some dust til I put the Trailseal on the tailgate. It still let in a bit of dust so I added some half round neoprene to the edge of the tailgate and that has stopped now. I don't think it leaks water when I wash it though. It ain't cheap, but it's good. I think it's between $1k and $1100.

I have an ARE that I picked up on Craigs list for 250.00. The top doesn't leak, but like Tempetom said, you need to seal around the tailgate to make it 100% leakproof.

My tonneau cover keeps 99% of the water out but isn't 100% watertight. Nice thing is it clamps on (no drilling) and has velcro sides, so its really easy to roll up and looks much better than the ones with snaps. I normally put a cap on my trucks, but I was going on vacation 2 weeks after buying my current truck - and hence opted for the tonneau cover since I couldn't get a cap on in time. I am quite pleased with it as it turns out and never bothered getting the cap.

I have the Undercover but no bedliner. I have the rail covers that come on the truck. I have never had any water in the bed and have had it for over 2 yrs.

I have an Extang Trifecta, Clamps on in under a minute, and 100% watertight so far. Folds in three sections.

I have had an ACI (Agri-Cover Inc Access® Roll Top Tonneau Covers - Pickup Truck Bed Roll Up and Tonneau Top Covers) Access cover for about 2 years with no water leaks (or snow). It's a roll-up with velcro sides. Clamps to hold it into place with no drilling required. My brother and neighbor also use this cover. As kanaduh said, I sealed around the tailgate with stick-on gasket seal from Home Depot ($2.50 per roll).

I looked for a cover for my Tacoma for years, but never found one that I liked. They all had drawbacks. When I bought my Tundra a friend at work showed me the one on his Chevy PU and it looked to be a nice unit. I bnought it and took my truck out to Colorado on vacation and put everything needed for a tent camping vacation with which filled the bed up. We went through some crazy storms and I never got a drop of rain in the bed. I would recommend this to anyone. I absolutely love it. Easy on, even easier off. Oh, by the way, it is a Lund Genesis and the best place to buy it is at truckaddons.com.

I had an Extang Blackmax with the snaps. It was a pain in the you know what dealing with snaps but I never had more than 1-2 drops of water in the bed no matter how hard it rained.

Went to an Extang RT roll-up with velcro, the flushmount type almost perfectly level with the bed where the bows and tailgate bar roll up with the cover. It was a VERY good looking flushmounted cover but the end canister took up a few inches in bed length, more water got into the bed, and the velcro never seemed to stay fastened nice and tight.

I now have an Extang tuff tonno 3 with the j-hook channel attachment instead of snaps. It also has the improved removable bows that are spring-loaded so they never fall off the frame while driving like they did on my older cover. Not fancy or anything but it's a quality piece with sturdy parts that rolls and unrolls more easily than with snaps. I'll just miss rolling up the tailgate piece and support bows along with the cover. But I strongly suspect it will be more watertight than the RT was because it's arched and with the way it seals up it probably won't require any periodic refastening.

I tend to find the fancier high end soft covers that are flushmount will pool water if they aren't adjusted just so because the lack of an arch to the bows prevents water from being channeled off properly. I had this issue with my RT every time it rained. The more basic topmounts that require removing and re-installing bows and the tailgate bar take a little more time to seal and unseal but they are usually more watertight because they're arched a bit. With a more sturdy fastening system than velcro they don't require as much readjustment. If you have an under the rail liner I don't see how any cutting would be necessary. If it's over the rail I would imagine there have to be notches sliced in there so the clamps for a cover can go under the bedrails.

I found with my Extang RT that having an over the rail cover threw the tolerances of the cover off just a tiny but, moving everything inward a bit and preventing the tarp from staying as taught as I would have liked.
