It is a long known fact that aluminum and steel when it comes to fasteners and plate do not mix in a wet environment.
It sound like you got an early one and they are stepping up to the plate. I don't know if they knew you had one in their records to have done some sort of recall or not.

Talked to Sean today at Undercover and it sounds like they are sending me a new cover and taking care of the body damage, which is great, all I ask anyone to do is stand behind their product and it looks like they are stepping up to the plate! I will keep you posted.

Now I am really pissed off. Got an e-mail from Dave Wells, president of Undercover Tonneau Covers stating they will not cover the damage to my truck caused by their product. This is after I wasted two hours this morning going to bodyshops for the estimates that they requested. Funny thing is 2 other Tundra owners have had the same problem with Undercover from a different body shop in the area. I would not have bought their product if i would have known they will not stand behind the product Warranty of 3 years.

Similar issue, although my cover hasn't come off except when I want it off. One of the "studs" (for lack of a better term) continues to pop out of it's hole when opening or closing, causing the cover to come out of alignment and rub on one corner. My problem isn't with Undercover (they're grrrrreat!) but my installer. I unfortunately chose an installer known for poor customer service. 3.5 weeks after making my first claim on this issue, and the parts still haven't been ordered. Sean @ Undercover has vowed to take care of it if things haven't been fixed by next week.

My advice to anyone considering an Undercover is...do your homework. The product itself is great, despite some early issues, and the support is fabulous. But make sure your installer is worth a damn, or just do it yourself and cut out the middle man.

Just bought an Undercover Tonneau and had it installed at the dealer for $43. I hope my installer did a professional job. I think he took proper care because I sat in a chair in the garage 15 feet away from him with my German Shepherd on a leash.

Follow-up. After being jerked around for 3 weeks by the original installer, a phone call to his company president got results. Undercover sent out the replacement parts, and they replaced the defective rivets with more of the exact same , and they went ahead and ordered some for the other side because they noticed that the rivets on that side were about to break as well. The installer mentioned that in 5 years, he's never had a problem with the original Undercover design, but this new one seems to be an issue. Having Undercover replace the defective parts with more of the same doesn't exactly instill confidence in me. They won't cover the paint issues from where the cover was rubbing due to the defective brackets. I spoke w/ Undercover directly and their advice was to "remove the cover". That doesn't do much for the paint that's already gone, and it certainly defeats the purpose of having a cover in the first place.

Bottom line, Undercover makes a great product. There's obviously some bugs with the new hinge design, but otherwise it's as sturdy as they say it is. Undercover was my #2 choice for a bed cover (LazerLite was #1) but I needed something on the fly as I was staring down a hurricane evacuation. I don't regret my choice, but I kinda wish I had gone with the LazerLite. C'est la vie!

Whatever happened with this? Why did Undercover renege on reimbursing the cost of the repaint? I'll be in the market for a tonneau soon and would love to hear if they stand behind their product.

They probably won't cover the cost of a re-paint because there's no guarantee that the cover was installed correctly. And, even if the cover was installed correctly, it could have shifted due to the truck's movements.

We always tell our customers, no matter what tonneau cover they buy, to keep an eye on it especially for the first 30 days. And, we show them what to look for also.

That's good to know for when I get my cover installed. Btw, have you any first hand experience with the new style Undercover tonneau that just came out? Any improvements that you could see or is it just a cosmetic makeover?

The new model, Undercover SE, is in production. As far as I know it will be several weeks before wholesalers have them in stock. An Undercover rep stopped by my shop a week or so ago and left some marketing material regarding the SE.

Bought my undercover about 6 months ago, don't understand all the instalation problems, put mine on myself so easy a caveman could do it. All these problems I'll keep an eye on thangs. Double check to make sure everythangs still snug.
