Default Dry Tonneau Cover

Hi

i have an 07 Crewmax with a bakflip cover. I really like the cover but I have not been able to keep my stuff dry. I really need for my stuff to be 100% dry. I would prefer a retractablle hard cover that does not make my lose any of my valuable space. Can anyone recommend a VERY dry and functional equivalent to a bakflip tonneau cover?

The bakflip drain tubes have broken off and they are not fixable as the little plastic (built in) pipe fittings are both broken and lost. This is some of the source of water but not all of it. there is drips everywhere and the cover has cracked with the sun in less than two years.

Thanks!

Just curious, is your cover a Bakflip or Bakflip G2?

Well, there are not many hard folding covers out there. Take a look at the FoldACover G4 Elite (don't buy the LX model) and there's the Extang Solid Fold.

Well I was myself going to get a G4 Elite they are very good covers, they sit above the bed rails, so does the Extang Solid fold, although that Solid Fold looks a little strange, its very thick, I am thinking anything like that backflip with drains and it sitting flush its just gonna have a hard time keeping the water out over time, none of these other covers need drains since they sit on top.

I just couldnt justify the cost of either of the above but I needed to keep all the water out, so I ended up getting a Extang Trifecta (soft tri fold cover and super heavy duty frame) I have never seen more than maybe a drop of two of water after a driving rainstorm, they have a 10 year warranty as well, I have actually used the warranty, one of the corners of the heavy vinyl started looking a little weird ... so I called them they said no problem and sent me a new one that same day (100% free)... very, very good customer service.

So that being said if you are dead set on a Solid cover the only two I would consider are the two above ... my soft cover is fantastic and super duper easy to put on or take off or fold, they use the same system on the Extang Solid Fold as well.

The roll covers, well I sure would think they are going to eventually leak if not right off the bat, again they are sitting flush and not on top of the rails, and they do take up bed space with the cannister or box that they roll or fold out of, roll cover hate winter as well, they get any ice on them they dont work to darn well if you wanna close it.

Myself I would probably get the Solid Fold, it is metal but has a seamless vinyl cover plastered to the top of that metal so no seam in the folds for water to leak into the top of it, the G4 Elite uses rubber between the folds so there is a possiblity of leakage, although almost everyone I heard talk about the G4 really liked it and said negligible water intrusion.

it is definetely a G2 and after reading some of the other reviews here I can tell you that it is a piece of crap. all panels have come unglued and one panel cracked in the sun...

Sounds like the G2 is having the same problems as the G1.

One correction for Trucker1967: The Solid Fold does not have any vinyl at all.

Right you are 123, on that I really was going on looks, it has a look of a vinyl, must be the type of paint they use on it, I was behind a truck that had it so I didn't actually see one in a store, but again that thing is very thick looking.

I am thinking anything that folds and is not one solid unit could have water intrusion in one form or another at some point, depending on what condition the seals are in, water laying on top of seams just seems like eventually its enevitable that its going to get through.

One note: I looked at their site and the Solid Fold has a 3 years warranty and the Soft Fold Trifecta has a 10 year warranty, now that seems really suspect too me, tells me that those seals in the folds of all these hard covers are going to leak once age hits them.

Hard to justify buying a $600 plus cover and knowing in 3 years it might be junk.

The Trifecta has a lifetime frame and a 10 warranty on the vinyl. Trifecta is a great cover and is the reason the Solid Fold was created.

Yes, the Solid Fold is rather thick, but if you think about it, it probably has to be that way. The only thing I wish Extang would change on it is the seal. The rubber seal is rather...short. I wish it were a bit more beefy. But, if they did that, the cover would appear to be even more "thick".

I have the Extang solid fold; I just went to check for leaks since it has been raining all day, at times torential. I have water that came in through the space between tailgate and side. I did not see where any rain came in at the seals, even where a 1 inch portion is missing on the hinge area. I don't know if there is a aftermarket seal for the tailgate area, one could probably be rigged up with some weather stripping or something. I never tried it. I used to get water there on my other truck that had a cap on it also. Good luck with what ever you end up with.
