Default Re: TUNDRA 5.7 (Not Good News)
Took out my Tundra yesterday and performed a camshaft test...smoked a Camaro, hit 105mph, cam stayed in one piece....passed the test!
Just posted this on the other Camshaft thread. This dribble is getting to be a waste of time. Just drive your trucks and smile...It's a Toyota afterall.

So you read the post by tms and you respond to it and you can not figure the answers out for yourself?
To me it reads, 20 engines have the cam shaft problem, some of the 20 truck are being used by tms and were not sold to the public. They have corrected the problem as it appeared very early in production.
If your still confused or concerned, then perhaps you should either go with the 4.7 engine or move on to another truck.
I think Toyota is well qualified to answer for themselves, I would like to hear it from them.
If I wanted a 4.7 I would get one. I want the 5.7 and some kind of assurance that when I buy it it will not leave me stranded 1000 miles from home due to a known problem that could have been fixed before I drop my 30 grand plus on it.

No need to be a dick.
What more do you need them to say, they addressed the situation? And it was explained pretty clearly, it seemed to me. I do not get what you are looking for from them.
There are two designations for the 5.7 in the vin number ... X and S, or is this for the truck? The dipstick TSB says the S vehicles are the ones with the O-ring problem. Is there any corrolation with this designator and the cam shaft problems? The reason I ask is because mine was built in 01/07, in Texas, and has an X00xxxx vin number so is a very early truck.

the dick
An assurance that the truck I buy isn't one of the one's that has a camshaft that is going to break.
Simple. Now let Toyota speak for themselves. If there isn't any more out there it will be a simple assurance to grant.

It's called a "Warranty". Why worry about it! Maybe you'll get one and the spark plug will break and fall in a cylinder. Geez, you guys make my blood pressure rise.......I need a pill!

Why all the crap here? My concerns effect none of you.
Let Toyota speak. No pills needed.
I'm known to drive my vehicles once in a while, even get them out of town a thousand miles or so on vacation. I'd like to know when I'm out that far, my camshaft will be there too and not in a couple of useless pieces because it didn't get fixed before I bought it.
I posted in the other thread but I give my .02 cents here as well. I personally dont really care about the issue your cam goes you get a new engine. if your aways away from a dealer I'm almost positive toyota will pay for the tow and get you on your way with a free rental until your new motor arrives. it's like any vehical on the road to day you just never know when something going to go wrong you dont live your life in fear do you? if you do then never leave your house because you just might be hit by a bus. this is getting rediculas they way some are acting towards this stupid cam thing. I say drive it like you stole it, it breaks it gets fixed. just like anyother vehical on the road today.

All of that is great, fantastic. I just want to have one that this particular issue will not bite me after I buy the thing. Is that so hard to understand?
I know crap breaks, even Toyota's, which seems to be the big sticking point on this forum. I just want one that has any known issues to be addressed BEFORE I plunk my money down on it.
I came over here following a link from another forum that Toyota reps do not come to, looking for answers from him, the Toyota rep.
I've never owned a Toyota, would very much like to get one, a DC 4WD SR5 with the 5.7 and 6 speed, not interested in the whole internet bashing crap. I like what I see with the truck and am willing to buy one. Just not one that could be a problem with something that could be addressed before I get it.
The Toyota rep was here, hoping he'd come back with some kind of assurance that this issue is in fact put to bed.
I do know if the dealers had the same attitudes that is on display here, I wouldn't give Toyota a second thought.
I owned one chevy in my life and four toyotas. with that said I am sure that if you were to buy a toyota that you would have no issues with the truck. I've always loved my toyotas and wold never go to another dealer unless something drastic happens and it would have to be more then a cam...

I don't think anyone is trying to "bash" you. If you are not comfortable about buying a Tundra now, wait 6 months and see how this plays out. I bought mine because I needed a new truck, the Chevy's, Ford, Dodge's and especially Titan's did not suit me. I bought the 100k warranty from Toyota, which includes towing and a loaner, so if the cam does break within that time period I know it won't cost me anything to have it repaired. Do I regret buying the Tundra?? NO, it gives me a thrill everytime I drive it. Can you imagine a 63 year old grandpa driving around town looking for someone to race?? That's me.........

Same here. I waited quite a while for the new Sierra and then the Tundra (and to a lesser degree, the 3/4 ton GMs and Fords) to come out so I could include them in my purchase decisions.
So, eventually, you run out of the luxury of waiting, and need to buy something!
For all anyone knows that could very well be one of the ones in Toyota's use that blew a camshaft. They did say most of them were theirs and not sold to customers.
What is the guy in the foreground handling up on anyway?
