OK, for black LINE-X under the rails for a short bed (6.5 ft), I'd say $420 to $475. For over the rails, add about $60 to $80. For black Xtra, add about $140 to $180. For a color match with Xtra, add about $180 to $220
How long would it take a shop to become certified? I only ask because I just had mine done about 2 weeks ago.

Also, since I already had mine sprayed (black) would the price range still be the same to add Xtra typically?

Line-X gets my vote. Here are the prices from the place I had it done.

Line-X under the rail $420 and $200 extra for the color matched Xtra.

How do I get information about the "Xtra" option. I don't think my local dealer has that available as she didnt' tell me about it. I will call tomorrow to verify.

What are the options with regards to the rail. Will it look funny sprayed black to under the rail and then it stops?? I don't think I want to pay extra to match the paint color (the silver color is the truck colour)

EDIT:
OK. Just called the general number for Line-X Canada. I was told that in Canada the terms are different. He said that the colour matching process is the equivalent of the "Extra" where they put a UV protection on it,etc on the top coat. The basic black doesn't have that.

Yesterday as I was watching TV I saw that they were using Line X in the Pentagon. There using it on the the walls to make it more secure. They showed a sample of a wall with the Line-X and one without the Line-X. The wall without the Line-x had no chance against the dynamite(or some kind of explosive). Well if its good enough to use to guard the pentagon it must be pretty good and I'm considering having it done to my new truck.

ylsf: Well, that doesn't sound right to me. It sounds like they are using something other than Xtra. Ask them what product they are using specifically and let me know. You need to leave the rail caps on. If your not sure about where the bedliner stops, etc., I suggest you discuss the matter with the dealer when you both can look at your truck. Chances are, you guys will agree on how it should look. You can read about Xtra at linexfortworthtexas.com and also at line-x.com

turkman12345: LINE-X has several products, one of which is called Paxcon, the product used for blast mitigation. You can read and view videos about Paxcon at PAXCON Anti-Terrorism Bomb Blast Mitigation The LINE-X bedliner product and Paxcon similiar in some ways but really are not the same products. However, if you want Paxcon in your truck, it can be done, seriously.

toyotaconvert: Your looking at about $160 to $200. Best results occur when Xtra is applied to a fresh and warm bedliner, but you can still have it done. How long does it take for a dealer to become certified? Well, they have to take a training class, sign an agreement, and maybe modify their spray booth.

I called back to clarify. They said their "top coat" for $100 is the same thing. It has a UV protection in it (talked to the dealer local). I think the terms are just different in Canada Vs. USA. She was telling me that the Canadian dealers have been doing the colour matching for years and that the USA ones are just starting to do it now. She said you can add the topcoat to the standard black and it keeps the "sheen" longer. She said that the colour matching topcoat includes the this same UV protector.

Sorry I didn't ask the specific name of the topcoat product as I called before I read this thread again

No no, I don't buy it at all. LINE-X in Canada is not different than LINE-X in the US. LINE-X has had two world wide conventions and I've been to both. Canada does not have different products. Xtra is made by Dupont only for LINE-X. There is nothing "like" Xtra on the market. I betcha they're using a urethane based automotive paint. That was (and still is) used by those dealers that are not Xtra certified. The most commonly used urethane based paint is Dupont Ful-Thane Nason. Actually, Nason works well and looks great, but it's not as durable as Xtra. Nason will be OK for you if you do not use your truck's bed for super heavy duty purposes. Now, she might be talking about another product called Ultra Shield, a water based product that I don't care for. If it's Ultra Shield, then, I would say it's a step below Nason. So, best to worst is: Xtra, Nason, Ultra Shield

She's also incorrect about dealers in the US just now starting apply color matches. I trained with a guy that was one of the first distributors in the US. He's been spraying and training others on color matches for 15 years (or more ?).

Has anybody had any problems mounting the deck rail system back up after the bed has been lined. I would think that it would be difficult being able to get a solid mount due to the surface being uneven with the texture of the liner. Any difficulties?

I can't really tell in that picture but do they just spray over the D-Rings mounted on the sides of the bed or are they removed prior to spraying?

They spray over them. The tech told me that since Toyota paints them in they spray over them. Otherwise, they would chip the paint up when the remove the rings.

I had my Rhino Liner done quite some time ago and since then, it's had 2000lbs of dirt dumped in there on 3 different occasions, 440 lbs of trash going to the dump, a bunch of lava rocks, and a bunch of party tables. It has scuffs on the Rhino Liner, but once I hosed it off after the dirt, it looked brand new again unless you looked up close for the scuffs of the tables and such.

Today I went to Lowes to buy lumber (Lowes and Home Depot are the only two places you can buy it in town) and I saw an old Tundra with a gree Line-x. I personally didn't think it looked that great. It was faded and had the same scuffs mine did but they were much more noticeable.

If you guys want, I'll go ahead and take pictures of mine the next time I go outside.

This typically depends on the place doing the job. Some places will remove, and some will leave, but I would imagine that all would be willing to do what you ask. Personally I had mine removed before it was sprayed.

The Toyota dealership that I service installs the rail system on ALL of their Tundras. We take them out, apply LINE-X, and reinstall and to date have not experienced any problems. Well, OK, we had one problem: The very first new Tundra, we stripped a couple of the rail mounting screws because we were removing them by hand. We do it differently now and that solved that problem.

We remove the tie downs, bed bolts, and tailgate access panel screws unless the customer wants them all sprayed over. I have to say that out of all the trucks we work on, Toyota bolts, screws, etc. are the most temperamental.

As far as keeping LINE-X looking good, the easiest thing to do is to opt for UV protection. Several products are available, the best is Xtra. If you don't opt for UV protection, you need to occasionally apply a product like 303 Aerospace or Just Once (justonce.com). If you'll do that, the liner will retain its good looks.
