Default Spray On Bedliners

I think that a spray on bedliner is the way to go for my Tundra. The two that I have found up in my area (Southern Ontario) are Rhino and Line X . The Line X is about $100.00 more. Any thoughts as to which is the better product. Thanks for the help.

Line-X hands down! I have had both and the Line-X is a far superior product.

This has been posted about hundreds of times so a search will probably get you better results, but here is my viewpoint:

Rhino is good, but only when applied correctly. Major issue with Rhino quality is that it is sprayed on cold so if there isn't a good technician applying it then it can have a tendency to “droop” on the sides, where as Line-X is sprayed on hot and hardens virtually instantly, so you will have an even coat on everything.

A few years ago, I used to sell Dodge trucks, and recommended Line-X to everyone as the number one accessory for their investment. Some people still went with Rhino, and while most of the time I saw decent results, there would be times that it would just plain be a crappy job. As for Line-X, I have never seen a problem.

In my opinion Line-X is the ONLY way to go.

Good luck.

Here's some technical specs and pics for you. Buy whatever suites your needs.

Rhino (Tuff Grip): 100% polyurethane, tear strength 145 pli, temp tolerance 175 degrees, uses a cold/low pressure application system, softer at Shore A 92.5, gels in 30 to 45 seconds, dries in 45 minutes, cures in 24 hours. Optional UV topcoat is called Rhino Shine. It will eventually peel off the liner and must be reapplied (the consumer can buy a bottle of it and do it themselves).

LINE-X: Polyurethane/polyurea blend, tear strength 295 pli (that's more than double the tear strength of Tuff Grip), temp tolerance 220 degrees, uses a heat/high pressure application system (for better adhesion and a more uniform looking final texture), harder at Shore D 45, dries in 4 seconds (thus follows the bed’s contours much better), cures in 24 hours. Several UV products are available: Ultra Shield, Nason, or Xtra. All are one-time applications, Xtra is the best (made by Dupont only for LINE-X, contains a Kevlar micro pulp for extreme durability).

Are those Rhino liners all the same material? If so, they are very inconsistent.

Yes, it's the same. Inconsistancy is common with any brand that uses a low pressure system.

This is brand new Rhino with a coating of Rhino Shine.

I was very hesitate on having a rhino lining on my truck, but I’m very pleased. I have a spray on Rhino Lining on my work truck and it looks much better then the ones that picture. I'm very happy with how mine holds up. It also depends on who you have doing you’re spray on liner.

Hence, the inconsistancy. There is less inconsistancy with high pressure brands.

The first two and the fourth pics are from different Rhino dealers that are closest to my shop. One of them recently closed (Frank Kent's Pitstop).

123gone.....I understand you have some info to share with line-x dealers about the gotchas associated with spraying the new Tundras. I am trying to get scheduled for this Thursday to get the job done in Green Bay WI. Could you PM those tricks so I can take along to give to installer. I think the guy's name is Brett Greely. Also wondering if I can get the mounting brackets for my step boards Line-x coated? They are made of galvanized steel. I now they may not need that protection, but I would prefer the look of Line-x on those visible pieces than the galvanized steel brackets.

I'll give Brett a call if you can give me his telephone number. One question for you: Do you have the track rail system? If not, do you want the mounting holes left open or cover them up with LINE-X? If you cover them up, you won't see them and if you want to use them in the future, you'll have to cut the holes out.

The brackets can be sprayed as long as no LINE-X is applied where it may render the steps off installation tolerance.

Whats the cost of having Line-X done on Tundra's?
Is there a bog cost difference between regular and Xtra?

Thanks

I'm not allowed to post prices. Dealers are free to set their own prices, so prices will vary. Xtra is not that much more and well worth the extra cost, especially when considering you're basically installing a permanent accessory in your very expensive brand new Tundra. Xtra is HIGHLY recommended.

If you don't get Xtra, the bedliner will require some occasional maintenance in order for it to maintain it's good looks.

Not sure what the cost is for Xtra (because it isn't in this area), but people seem to be typically paying between $375 and $450 I believe. It also depends on if you go over or under the rails.

You might want to check again. Just a few days ago, some things changed and it's now a little easier for dealers to become Xtra certified.

I think it's OK for me to give a range of prices. So, let me give that a shot. Moderator, if that's not the right thing to do, then

OK, for black LINE-X under the rails for a short bed (6.5 ft), I'd say $420 to $475. For over the rails, add about $60 to $80. For black Xtra, add about $140 to $180. For a color match with Xtra, add about $180 to $220
