So in California anyway the gas comes from the same place and the only difference is the additive for a particular "brand" and the different octane ratings. Plain and simple that is just my .02 cents.
Sounds like you have spent a lot of time on the loading racks. I would have said "Hello", but I was too busy adding my Octane boosters and various additives. Just hope I don't get my Shell and Chevrons mixed up...of course then I could just dump the whole load at the Circle K....................

I never stated the drivers did crap. By the way I did spend time at the Cheveron tank farm for SFO. We did all our aircraft refueler testing there and the guys there were very informative. This farm pumps over thousand of gallons of jet fuel to the airport and also supplies gas and diesel to the area cheverons and affiliates. They had pallets full of Techronline additives in 1 quart bottles and they explained their process. The old guy there had 40 years with that company and new his stuff. He also explained how the fuel suppliers operate. I had a co-worker who worked for a company in Colorado running fuel near Denver. The refiners through their process and testing determine the octane ratings and the blends for their supply region.

Contrary to what some people believe, higher octane does not equal better mileage. Some vehicles require higher octane to prevent pinging (detonation). Octane has nothing to do with mileage. If you are getting better mileage with higher octane then you are either driving the vehicle differently or there is some other variable that is off.
The gas here in CA is different from other states.

As much as I can assure it's not, BTW the Safeway/chevron happened in AZ.
Are you so negative on the subject because you know it true and trying to hide it? Or because it was different where you were?
As to where I come from my dad is a pharmacist my mom a teacher. I was born in North Dakota moved to AZ when I was 6 and then moved to Oregon when I was 21.

Ignorant here of the additives, boosters and all that. My truck seems to get better mileage with Shell than with Costco gas. When I first bought my truck and gas was not yet $3+ gallon I went with Costco because it was about 20 cents/gallon cheaper.
When the prices skyrocketed there is only a difference of about 3-5 cents difference and have been going with Shell.
