Default Put on Airaid Intake and Custom Magnaflow

Hey Everyone,

Yesterday I installed the Airaid intake. Today i went to a muffler shop i'm familiar with and put on a 12458 duel in duel out muffler with duel pipes running out the passenger side.

Here's my quick review:
Intake alone is loud. You feel some get up and go starting around 3K. When you get past 3K on the intake it's loud. The sound isn't as clean as say an I4 or I6 engine with intake but it does sound good, just too loud for me. And note I ride a Ducati with Termi pipes

Then today i put the exhaust and intake on. Now it's really loud. it's as if the exhaust made the intake more loud and visa versa.

I proceeded to take the intake off today and put the stocker back on and now the sound is nice. The magnaflow alone is quieter than the intake alone. There is a small small drone around 1500rpm when you are decelerating, otherwise I'm cool with it.

If anyone wants the airaid --pm me. Otherwise I need to find a place to dyno the combination..i'm willing to bet both intake and exhaust alone will yield 20whp and 20lb of torque.

Pics!

i believe the TRD and K&N and all other brand intakes have oil as well. Not sure how that makes a difference.

Elton - i guess the muffler broke in eh? is it still good sounding/tolerable with little drone?

I wonder how much quieter the 22" body version is?

Any sound clips for your mags? Was it a full cat back system or just a muffler with pipes made by a shop? looks good, what did it cost ya?

Troy, it's made from the stock cats back. replaces the stock muffer and custom pipes bent out the back. Negative is that they aren't mandrel bent. I do get a slight drone around 1500rpm as the other guys will talk about.

If i were to do it all over again, I'd go with the 12568 muffler which is 4" longer and would quiet that drone down a bit.

Alright, i'm ready to get my exhaust changed and want something that will last Wi. winters so it has to be stainless steel. Which pretty much narrows it down to magnaflow, won't pay borla prices. With that said, i want it louder than stock outside but just a little louder inside with no drone if possible. I am torn between the 18" and 22" series magnaflow. Any suggestions? The exhaust shop is pushing me towards the 18". If I wasn't worried about the wife and kids complaining, i'd just get the 18. Will I be dissapointed with the 22"?

troy, if i had to do it again, i would go with the 22"...

I have the 18", it's not that bad, my gf and my friends dont' complain, but inside, i would like it to be as close as possible to stock when cruising around 65-75mph.

I don't think you'd be unhappy with the 12568.

On another note, if you got a 2 into 1 muffler, you then wouldn't have to worry about the drone. I think the drone is more isolated to the 2 in 2 out mufflers.

I'm still debating between Borla and Magnaflow. My question is why does magnaflow post bigger gains with the 2in/1out system, compared to the 2in/2out?
I also want the biggest performance increase with the quietest sound possible, any advice? Thank you.

I honestly have not seen independant dynos on ANY exhaust system for the 5.7L

I think the magnaflow dyno they post is only for the 2 in 1 out right?
If what you want is power and a mellow sound, then you'll want the 2 in 1 out system. Summit racing has it for 400 buck shipped.

The 2 in 1 out system should mellow out the sound the best as it equalizes teh gases as they come through. You can also choose to put the stock resonator in place which will quiet things even more. I was going to go this route but I do like the sound and look of a 2in 2out system. The drone however is annoying.

Magnaflow has the dyno results posted on their site. It's 15 hp gain with 2 in 1 out and 9 hp gain with 2 in 2 out

More air flow in the engine also makes it run leaner.

I hate magnaflows cuz after they break in, "Where the F#$# is the volume knob?!"

Im happy with my flowmaster exhausts.

I have a Flowmaster 40 series 1 in 1 out 3". The shop put a "Y" just before. Dose anyone know If I should have gone with 2 in or dose it make alot of dif. The sound is great and when I get on it it screams. I do have drone at 1800 that im ok with. ( thinking of running true duels same muffler but was told it would not pass the visual on a smog?)
