Everybody needs to relax and allow Toyota to do whats right and they WILL. I too worked for Toyota for years and they have always done their customers right. I remember when they had the 3.4 L Headgasket recall, if it needed an engine Toyota said put an engine in it. When it comes to the drivetrain stuff Toyota will get it right. Its probably a littl etough, cuz they dont want to the the cat out of the bag that ther emay be widespread problem (that will affect sales) but they'll get it right and it may be a recall after all is said and done and the parts are readily available.
I remembr way back in 1983-84...my girlfriend at the time had an 81 Celica and took it in to the dealership for an oil change or something and they ended up replacing her exhaust manifold and cat. If toyota knows it's broke they seem to want to fix it....for free..her car had more than 80,00 miles on it. I respect that in a company. Can you say the same for the Big 3? Hopefully we can.
Toyota took care of my tranny, and I have had problems with Ford F-150, which they took care of too. It worries me that people are posting re-manned trannys being used to replace broken trannys under warranty. It also is concerning that something is definately not right with the new 6-speed, but no word from Toyota. I am sure they eventually will speak up.

In the other thread you say that the "transmission issue was ISOLATED". Can you elaborate on this a bit please? I am wondering if there are certain build dates to be concerned about, or whether its only the Texas/Indiana factory builds that are having the problem?
I haven't received my new truck yet, but it will be here in a few weeks. As far as I know it was built in Texas on July 26th or 27th. I am wondering if I am in the clear, or if i can expect problems? Any more info would be greatly appreciated.
Good luck to everybody who has experienced problems with their 6-speeds! I hope everything gets resolved quickly.
Quote:
To EVERYONE out there...The transmission issue was ISOLATED. There are steps that need to be taken in order for a problem to be diagnosed. The first step is to let your dealer become aware. The second step is to let a technician drive, or force someone to ride with you and experience the issue.
Third, well, if they feel what is happening, then they SHOULD know what to do.
Checking fluid levels ( differential, transfer, transmission etc...) is only a part of that, but, you should let things play out.
Toyota doesn't volunteer transmissions as soon as someone says, "I have a vibration when..."
I do not sweat things like this. That is why you get a WARRANTY when you purchase a new vehicle. Take a deep breath. Toyota will not leave you hanging.
fords do suck, my 2003 ranger had a rod start knocking at 20k, and the dealer told me it was not a problem and that if i wanted to replace the engine it would be 6500 bucks plus labor. I have owned atleast 4 rangers, 2 f150's, 7 mustangs, a thunderbird, 2 escort gt's, plus a few more that i cant remember. They all suck compared to any toyota I have owned, including my 07 tundra, I will never buy a ford again!
I just talked on the phone with a good friend who is a Service Manager at a fairly large Toyota Dealership and he advised me that he has heard nothing about a widespread tranny problem. He is driving a 5.7 Tundra demo also. He would tell me if there was something to be concerned about. The only problem he says that he has seen in trend is the A/C vents will not stay pointing straight out, they have a tendancy to tilt to the pointing up position. He said overall they have been trouble free for the service dept, and they have sold lots of new Tundras. Thats good news to me.
Toyota told my service guy there are several reported failures. What does several mean? I don't know. I'm sure the replacing of NEW transmissions in the 5.7 has someone concerned at toyota. New trucks shouldn't need trannys replaced.

Yea I know a guy In Georgia with a 2007 Tundra with a bad 6 speed Transmission with 500 miles on his ODO so it's a knowen problem right now. About Toyota providing Rental Coverage it depends on the Toyota Dealership but I've never knowen Toyota Dealerships to be generous and put you in say an Avalon or something similar to the type vehicle your driving just have to take what they provide you and be happy with it I didn't mind the corolla or Rave4 they put me in.I Wished Toyota was more like Lexus when it comes to repairs with those perk's but sadly You have to pay for those privileges not like 40K on a Tundra is cheap either but you understand the point.

"1 guy in Georgia"
Like I said with over 120,000 trucks sold, there have been a few isloated tranny issues but in no way is it widespread. His service dept (in Georgia) has not seen a single tranny problem in a Tundra, and they cant sell em fast enough! My local dealership (Alaska) has not seen a single tranny problem here either and they cant sell em fast enough either. I am friends with a bunch of the Toyota techs that work there as well. Sounds like a small isolated batch of Tranny victims. If I had to guess I'd say that Toyota is working overtime to come up with a fix for this so called "Bed Bounce" issue with a higher priority than redesigning anything on the Aisin 6 speed.
Thats the price we pay having them put American made parts in Japanese designed vehicles! I remember the days when you could determine that a truck was made in Japan with a Vin that started with a J versus a number, and the American made ones that started with a number were always more faulty!

Sales number's don't reflect very much to me as a buyer hell the 2000 Tundra sell's were pretty good for it's first model year run too and I purchased a new one but i can't say i didn't have problems because I did . When it comes to first Model Year I will also avoid it Toyota being No general exceptions to these rule's.You see that way I put it New Plant in Texas new suppliers and an all new Aisin transmission and New 5.7 liter Iforce V8 is enought reason. My feeling is Toyota will do what is best for the buyer's on the first year run but many Times I've seen a lot of un experienced people mainly Tech's who have no Clue about this truck and the feature's it has. Toyota might have the best 1/2 ton truck on the Planet but it's the service dept and poorly trained Dealership esp on a new product that need's to step up to the plate.I think Toyota biggest issues are dealing with madder's from a dealership prospective and many times Corp has to get Involved to do what is best for the customer.I have dealt with Toyota On issues yes They will provide an clear aneswer and usually solve some problems.Im glad to read for those owner's affected they have provided help but i tend to expect that in a First year brand new redesigned Tundra Truck. Toyota didn't Invent the Truck but they surely provided enought refinement later on to kept the current Tundra owner's coming back as the Truck is improved and the bug's and issues are Improved.
