Thats the price we pay having them put American made parts in Japanese designed vehicles! I remember the days when you could determine that a truck was made in Japan with a Vin that started with a J versus a number, and the American made ones that started with a number were always more faulty!
J-VIN vehicles are like NO OTHER, nothing comes close to the Japanese manufacturing quality.
What's up with America? Are we that pathetic? I acknowledge that American auto makers have really not gotten it for some reason. If you look in consumer reports, all the top rated manufacturers are Japanese. Look it up. So why the H*** are we so behind? Because American automakers are greedy and self serving, no pride. Does anyone else have a better answer?

We have lots of pride much like the Japanese, however we are too lazy to follow through with things to show our pride. Our biggest concern is making money and spending as little as possible to do so! It reflects. Why do you think the Big 3 have been outsourcing to Mexico for so many components of their vehicles? Because its cheap! They still charge and arm and a leg (when they can) for the vehicles and have substandard parts being made by substandard labor. Its the American way! They have the we'll fix it later mindset. It blows my mind that Toyota has been building trucks here in the states for the last 7-8 years with good success but they must have buku QC measures or I'd guess things would have gone south a long time ago.

I can provide you a simple answer Work ethic's from the Japanese are More Superior vs the American Method's.

No offense but if you're looking for a better answer I would start with your own. Your statement is not an answer or explanation for why things are the way they are....just a broad generalization with no substance of facts to support it. Here's a fact: every automaker on the planet (Japanese, European, Korean and American) is greedy and self serving to the extent that they are solely in business to make a profit for their shareholders. This is a good thing because in order to make a profit on a ongoing basis they must necessarily take care of their customers or risk losing market share, profitabilty and shareholder value. This type of situation is clearly not sustainable. As far as the "no pride" comment, please clarify and give us some examples because I'm pretty sure that nearly any Big 3 employee in this country would take exception to this statement. Again, examples please.
There are many reasons why the US automakers are behind, some real (for example, poor strategic vision, incompetent senior management & legacy costs) and others perceived (lazy workforce with no pride in their work) but the gaps, real and perceived, are much tighter now than in years past.

One thing I have noticed is the amount of garbage that gets blown out of proportion and is thrown around the outside channels with a thread like this. There's a lot of cheap shots being taken by all the Ford, Chevy and Mopar guys when they read this kind of thread - it's like candy to them knowing that our beloved Toyota product actually has flaws like the rest of the big 3's vehicles, granted even though there are far fewer problems with Tundras than with other "domestic" trucks. Just take a look at the big deal every one on the outside was making with the few camshaft failures on the 5.7

personally id like to see all the misc bs in this thread gone. having just bought my truck (5.7/6spd) and having 400 miles on id like to follow the real information. not wade thru multiple posts about gm, ford, dcx or what worker works harder. only relevant things i want to see is info on what problems or issue i should be looking for since im a new toy owner. come on mods, put an end to this crap.
cheers

Good points, but I'm tired of people saying, oh,only a few camshaft failures and trannys going out. Well, until you are the one who had this happen to you, don't try to pretend you know how it feels to buy a "toyota" because of the reputation for thousands and then not be able to drive it for weeks and always wonder how it is going to continue to hold up. Even if One new Tundra blows a camshaft or loses a new tranny, that's one too many. Toyota finally took care of me, no big deal, but don't patronize people with these experiences.

There is no such thing as absolute perfection, but there is a big difference between great and a POS. I do know how you feel in reference to your new truck being out of commission and wondering what is to come. I bought a 1996 Tacoma Xtra-Cab with the 3.4L V-6 and had my headgaskets blow right about the time that the recall came out. It was -40 degrees and the dead of winter and the truck was 5 months old and I didn't get my truck back for 45 days. It was a fight to get headgaskets at that time and they were being sent in small numbers with Vin's practically attached to them. I was bummed big time, but I turned around after I got it back and put well over 100,000 miles on it without a hitch. I had similar thoughts to ones you probably have had with yours, "I shouldn't have bought such a new design truck before Toyota got all the glitches fixed after the first year?" I didn't sweat it one bit and loved that truck. Stuff do happen, but I have never seen another manufacturer take care of people as well as Toyota has and I have worked for quite a few and watched them turn their shoulder and do nothing for their customers when they should of!

Great point. I can't say any car manufacturer has ever done me wrong. I guess I am lucky when the day is done. I originally had ill feelings about the Tundra, but you make good sense. I am sure toyota will get these things handled and take care of their customers
