Just to add to the tranny issues. I bought a new 5.7L double cab on July 26th and with just barely over 100 miles on it I took it in to the dealer Aug. 6th because I was getting a very noticeable clunk (almost like slack in the driveline) on every take off. I also felt a few vibes at certain speeds. They wouldn't tell me anything initially other than they would figure out what was going on. Turns out they are replacing my transmission and I should have it back today. Needless to say i'll be glad to get my truck back especially after driving their loaner prius for a week (although the gas mileage has been nice).
hmmm, a couple clunks and they jumped to replacing tranny? Did they say why? Did they look at the truck and drive it, or did they say there is a service bulletin on tranny?

The service manager rode with me and admitted what he was hearing/feeling as i drove wasn't normal. He had a district service rep there within half an hour to ride with him and then they came to me in the customer lounge and said they were putting in the shop to figure out whats wrong. They didn't mention a TSB but when I finally got a service writer to talk to me over the phone he did say, "have you heard we've been having some problems with these transmissions"?, and of course I said yes. I know for a fact mine will be at least the second this dealer has replaced. I'll try to get any info I can when I pick my truck up which will be today I hope.
All the Japanese mfg's, along with other countries that turn out products that have known build quality that is either very high or outstanding, have a couple things in common.
A work ethic along with a very strong sense of social integrity attached to a heritage of discipline.

Americans can get the job done, however, currently I would say we are to litigious and prone to self entitlement which is directly attached to our belief system being infused with rap music lol .... I had to make a funny! I believe an American could accomplish ANYTHING, however, we must have a leader to do it! At this time our leaders SUCK!!!!!!!
I just called the service department to see if my truck would be ready today and this is what they told me. The new transmission is in and all the fluid levels and such are fine but when they test drove it they still felt a slight bump of some sort. I don't have it back yet so I really don't have a clue. They said they have a rep on the way to the dealer from our SET port here in Jax, Fl to drive it and make a decision as to whether or not whats going on now is normal or not.
My question is do any of you 5.7L 4x4 guys/gals feel any clunks when you take off or come to a stop? I know what axel wrap is as my tacoma had it severly until i replaced the weak leaf springs and added a traction bar. Do our new tundras have axel wrap issues or do you think the second tranny they just installed may have issues as well? I did verify with them that it was a brand new one, not a reman. Thanks for any help!!

I don't know if I can call mine a "clunk" but I do feel a very slight bump in the truck when I start off from a stop, I'm wondering if the dealer replaced the tranny and still feel it, if it could be something beyond the tranny, ie; transfer case, drive shaft, rear end causing the problem? Maybe it's just the way the truck is, mine doesn't bother me much, although I haven't felt the vibration you spoke of. I know there was a thread in regards to the clunk going away if you go into the manual shift program "S" starting out in 1st so the tranny doesn't have to decide between 1st and 2nd at take off.

I know this sounds crazy, but this happened to me also, and I always thought it was the gasoline slosing around in the tank when I stopped and accelerated. This happens in my wife's mini van. COuld it be?

This is a hepful thread for those of us who had tranny problems. And for future tranny failures, cause they are going to happen. I'm tired of Perfect Tundra owners bagging on productive threads. I am glad you have a perfect Tundra, so go visit the "Check out my Pics" threads. You complainers still find your way back to this thead somehow?? When your tranny dies, you will be glad you have a place to find info on.

By the way Chucker, I'm not going to your favorite threads saying, "I'm tired of pic's of 3" lifts, kill this thread". So, get a life and support your fellow Tundra owners.

If you guys want to rant, take it elsewhere. Your useless, intimidating, and not well thought out posts are nothing more than an eye-sore to the rest of the innoncent folks that just want to READ about the problems they have and want fixed.
