2007 D/C , 4.7 liter tried and true. No six speed here, but no warranty issues either......
You probably won't either. The 4.7 and tranny are good to go!! I haven't heard of any 4.7 or tranny problems. You made a great choice with your truck. Happy motoring

Theres a lot of compromise in owning a new year and model Tundra, the bigger drivetrain isn't one I'd give up. But if your happy with the 4.7, thats all that matters.

I have the "rumble strip" tranny problem. The regional tech rep said that the problem is known, that the drivetrain engineering team is working on the problem (in fact, it is their number 1 priority), and that Toyota feels that between 5 and 10% of the trannys out there have the issue. They said it has to do with the way the computer is signaling the torque converter. They are not sure if it the a computer or torque converter problem.
They offered to replace my tranny and torque converter, but I might or might not get one that behaves the exact same way as my current one. Or, I could wait for the real fix....my choice. I am waiting, as they also said if I get tired of the problem, or if it gets worse, I can called the dealer at any time to initiate a replacement.
I think they are on the right track with the computer command issue. I tried to get ours to do the rumble in "S" mode shifting back and forth from fif to sixth (around 65MPH) and could not make it rumble. However, it will rumble downshifting from sixth to fif in "D" mode at the same speed.
Anyway, I was able to reproduce it for the service manager at my dealer, and received a copy of the report. I am going to wait a little while and see what they come up with.

Yea just to add to the comments on here....today i went down to my dealer to check out some prices on some accessories and mentioned my rumble problem to my salesman....He set me up with the service writer who told me that i should bring it in as soon as possible...that he had heard from a few other dealers in the area that Toyota is just replacing all the ones with this problem....and here i was gonna give it a 1,000 or soo miles....but ill go with what they say...At least it will be documented...
Wishing you the best of luck on your tranny swap. I picked my tundra up after my first tranny swap and it too has a rumble from 5th to 6th gear.
The truck was back in the shop today and the service manager test drove it.... experienced the rumble and said Toyota is willing to try another tranny. That is fine with me. In the mean time they fixed the rattling exhaust system, leaking thingy on the tranny, tightened drain plug(leaking) and ordered a new tire they flattened in the shop.
Hardly want to drive a rumbling, spare tired 2007 Tundra XSP with only 1100 miles on it around town. What kind of advertising is that.
So now I'm driving a 2007 Camry rental. Nice car.... shame my Honda ATV wouldn't fit in the trunk. I'll bet if I kill a deer bowhunting this weekend it'll fit in the back seat.
I have to say... Kudo's to the Service Manager at the local Toyota dealer. He has really done a great job trying to make me happy. Shame that is not the norm across the country.
I'm sorry to hear about all the issues with the 6 speed transmissions.
I think I'm going to wait for an 09 Tundra and see if they have ironed out the bugs.
I really wanted a new truck now but I'm scared to death of getting a bad one. I've had three Toyota's and they have never given me an ounce of trouble other than 1 starter.
I wonder what's happening with Toyota? I think the quality has really slipped since they started building them here in the states.
I dont think the odds are very good that you'll get a bad one and the problems are so small in comparison to the number of Tundras out there its almost not worth equating. I was at Toyota today BS'ing with a couple buddies that are techs and all they have heard is stories. They have not had a single tranny problem or a camshaft problem in their shop. That says a lot when they are still selling a bunch of new Tundras every month and have been since its inception. These forums are very deceptive cuz those that are upset and have a computer are likely to find this forum. The happy owners just drive theirs and love em. Lots more happy than upset!

This is a good point. I specifically looked for this forum when my tranny went south. Otherwise, I would have never bothered looking for a Tundra forum. I would have just kept enjoying the truck knowing it was a Toyota. I think I was so dissapointed, that i needed to find answers from a reputable Toyota site. My guess is there are thousands of problem-free tundras out there, which these people could care less to find a site like this. It's a great site though.

And...on a bright note...my truck has (had) the rumble strip issue, but now that it has about 3000 miles on it, it seems to have gone away on its own. Yesterday it dawned on me that I had not felt the rumble in a while, so I specifically tried to get it to do its thing. Could not make it happen. At 1000 miles I could make it happen any time I wanted to. I am kinda glad I waited rather than have the dealer swap out the tranny and torque converter. I get worried when you have major surgery at the dealer. For me, having the issue on record and an offer of replacement is fine....hopefully it does not come back!

Toyota started "building them here in the states" about 25 years ago. I'm curious, exactly what are you basing your opinion that quality has really slipped during that time?

Well, it's my luck that I have the rumble problem too with my 3 week old CM. I actually have 3 issues:
One is the 'rumble-strip' btw 30 - 45 mph in 6th gear under slight load when the torque conv disengages (sometimes rough enough to rattle the dash).
The second issue is a rather severe vibe under strong acceleration in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear while pulling a trailer. It was strong enough that I would wait and wait for a gap in traffic to pull out, so I could 'ease' out and get up to speed - it made me feel that if I 'stood on it' something might break.
The third issue is a high frequency vibe while towing at highway speed. It seems to have become worse with time. It is noticeable enough that any time you touch the gas it blurs the view out the side view mirrors. You can feel it in the seat, through the floor, and really noticeable through the steering wheel. On a smooth road this is VERY irritating as the rest of the truck is sooo smooth and quiet, it really stands out.
I do want to say that otherwise I absolutely LOVE the truck, and still feel it is the best money I have ever spent on a vehicle.
Truck goes into the dealer this Thurs to be looked at...
