I hope things work out for you.
The 1st transmission was a bad one and they did a great and fast job putting the 2nd trans in ... no questions there.

-------------o----------

UPDATE ... Just got off the phone with the service manager (very professional and nice guy) and I explained my problems and concerns.

He explained that the 2007 is a a "Pure Drive By Wire" and I may have a small glitch in a chip or something now related to the "controls".

He was super and told me to either bring it in or keep driving it and see what happens.

He did explain that the new "Drive By Wire" systems are different in reponse and they do act differently.

He could not explain why it hung up in 5th on the interstate (perhaps a computer glitch) ???

Oh ... I asked him how long the data stays in the on board computer. He explained that the "computer codes" stay there until the computer is reset.

I still feel a bit queeezy ... but maybe this will sort itself out ????

SOS

PS ... Hey one good thing about my 1st transmission problem/replacement ... I was "Googling 2007 Tundra Transmissions Problems" ... and I found this place ...lol....

I am sure that I can get it fixed ... it is just the hassle. I do NOT want to "Lemon Law" this vehicle. too many mods on it now.

I still love this truck and I might push TMCA for an extended warranty ?????

also note that if you have the VSC OFF and the slipper car sign on, shifting in D won't work that well. I have found as well as others on this forum that in that combination it won't upshift automatically past 4th gear.

First of all ... I am a "Toyota Lover" and had many of them over 20 years with little or no problems. Sooo, dont flame me as Anti-Toyota.

I bought a new 2007 5.7L, 6 speed June 2nd and transmission went out in about a week later at 500 miles.

Dealer put a new one in and now I am about 950 miles and the "2nd Trans stuck in 5th gear (on the interstae yesterday) and this AM .. it seemd to be hesitating on shifting and slipping a bit at very low speeds, while shifting from 1st to 2nd to 3rd. And I drive really baby this truck too. Heck, I have only "hit the gas once" to merge .. just before the trans stuck in 4th/5th.

I am not an idiot when it come to vehicles (no I can't work on them) but I have raced cars (in my younger days) and have flown all types of aircraft.

I am ALWAYS in tune with whatever I am driving and/or flying and can "feel the equipment's performance"

Going to drive it a few more days and see if it settles down ... then I will approach Toyota dealer and TMCA and see their reaction and actions.

If no not good responses and answers ... going to call TMCA in CA and see what they will do.

If no "proper response" ... I will put this sucker on a flatbed trailer .. place (legal & well worded) magnetic stickers ALL over it and tow it around Atlanta with with my Nissan Titan.

This new (2nd 6 spd.) transmissionis really making me nervous now. ...

SOS

PS .. Sorry for the rant ... I needed to vent ... And to think of the $3K or $4K in mods that I have already done too. .. GRRRRRRR ...

.
By Chance Did you have the Trac/VSC turned off and in "D"....If so you found the Tundra "easter egg" ... It is a known problem that the Tundra and a few other Toyotas have ,,,, They will Stick in a gear if you have the Trac /VSC turned off and you have it in "D",,,, So the best thing to do is When you have Trac/VSC off run in "S" mode and Click up to 6th And no more gear sticking,,, Now try and get a toyota service advisor to admit it is a known issue,,,, I have this same issue ,,, I can get mine to stick in almost any gear if i want to,,,, One of our Master tech's admitted the problem is known by Toyota,,,,,

Thanks for all of the advice and suggestions.

Yep .. I had the VSC on and I always keep all the automatic .. "anti slip/crash devices" ... on as I don't even get into wet grass with this truck ... lol ...

This is a great site for "brainstorming" and I really do appreciate the "input and/or possible solutions" given here.

PS ... Off to drive it again and listen to TRD Duals drone a bit ...lol ... ...

Hopefully it's just a computer glitch that can be solved by a simple reflash. However, if I were in your shoes I would atleast start becoming familiar with your states lemon law. You want to make sure you are doing what is required by law to have a lemon law claim, whether it's to record dates and times of contact and service or some other documentation. That way if you should have to do the lemon thing down the road, you already have your ducks in a row.

I hate it for you, I went through this on a GMC Duramax. I am curious on the mods you mentioned. Any chance they could be a factor? The odds of getting two "bad" tranmissions in the same vehicle must be astronomical so I would think there is something else going on. Maybe as you are suggesting, a problem with a chip or in the computer somewhere.

Keep us posted.

The mods were not related to the transmission.

TRD duals, Line-X, Bedliner, Bedmat, S/S Tiedowns, Bushwacker Fender Flares, Deposit on new wheels and tires. .. All generic stuff.

Looking for BSMs, blanket type seatcovers, rear cam/monitor and a few other things at moment.

Wanted a PTO winch .. dealer said there was no PTO outlet port on 5.7L.

SOS

PS ... took it on 30 min ride a while ago .. still doing same thing(s). ..... but, like someone mentioned before ... hard to think 2nd transmission would be bad ???
Maybe (transmission controller) a computer/electronic like the service manager hinted about ????

PPS ... H*ll .... my truck made it to 500 miles before the Transmission went out (yoohoo) .. maybe I can get to a 1,000 miles before the Computer goes out ... lol ...
OR ... I can just have a ..."Taxi Chase Car" ... ride beside me, where ever I go. ...

Hummmm ... Now, I think that I will buy the extended warrarty from my insurance company (7 years, 100k miles with $250.00 deductable per repair).
They have them cheap ... at about $25.00 every 6 month, pay with your ins. premium ..... but you have to buy it within first 12,000 miles and/or 12 months or something like that ???

PPPS ... Hey .. just doing some weird math here. Toyota said a tranny cost about $7K and if I went through 2 of those at 1,000 miles ... ?????

... That would be about ... $14.00 per mile just for trannys .... plus other parts, gas, insurance, depreciation, and etc. ... Let just say ... $15.00 per mile.

At that price ... I would bet that it would be cheaper for Toyota Corporate to rent a Rolls Royce and have GWB drive me around the South ... lol ...

2 questions. Those with transmission failures have you had problems with your new one?

And is it typical for these 6 speeds to constantly shift if you change speeds? Like going from 25 to 30? I noticed that whenever you change speed it down shifted. Maybe a stupid question but I've never owned an automatic, lol. I've always had sticks. Just curious because the truck I want at the dealership was doing this.

I have had many vehicles .. sticks and autos. Never had an automatic like this.

IF .. this 2nd .. 6 spd. tranny works out OK for me .. I think that I can really learn to like it .. it is just DIFFERENT.

Hey .. I am 937 miles ... and .. "winging it on tranny no. 2" .. wish me luck .. lol ..

SOS

PS The last time I had a difficult time learning .. "how to do an automatic" .. was with the old push button MoPar 3 spd attached to a 426 cu in/ 425 hp. hemi. The automatics were actually faster than the sticks in those days (mid to mostly late 1960s).

I loved that car too .. it would burn those skinny tires right off the rims .. but the d*mn doors and body integrity was that of a soup can ...

PPS .. To answer your question ...yes .. the 6 spd. autos do shift in a weird way ... and mine is sometimes .. more weird than weird .. .. my experiences only here.

whew, glad to see that somebody has the same problem(i guess). i turned off the trac.and vsc and it was in drive.would not shift out of 4th. turned everything back on and it shifted fine. tried it again with everything off and it did fine. i thought maybe the trans wasnt fully warmed up or something, dunno. was kinda getting nervous about it. With all the trac. stuff off it still feels like its not getting all the power that you would expect out of that hoss engine.

They come with a 5 or 7 year warranty from the dealer right? Does the extension from your insurance company take effect when the dealer term ends or immediately? And what is your insurance auto insurance company that is offering this to you? I wonder if they all do this.
