TundraGeneral discussion forum for the 2007 and later Toyota Tundra.
This is a discussion thread titled "2007 6 speed transmission failures", within the Tundra forum, part of the Truck Forums category.
My new 07 tundra 5.7 just ate the transmission with less than 5000 miles on the vehicle. My truck is sitting at the dealer, while Toyota scratches its head. Anyone else hear of this or experience this? I didn't abuse or offroad my vehicle. It just happened while I was driving on the freeway without warning. The tranny started shifting all over the place, all the dash lights started going off like wildfire, and then I couldn't get it out of 4th. Toyota has now told me the tranny is bad and needs to be replaced. the trannys are backordered and they want to see my tranny to see what the deal is. they also said I am the sixth 5.7 this has happened to in June.
Do you know when and where your Tundra was built? That really sucks. Do and search and you will see you are not alone. It's only a handful but it must be a pain not to have your truck. Hopefully they will set you up with a platimun extended warranty for your troubles....and a Tundra loner while you wait.
On a side note...I was on the phone with Toyota Finacial today.....great customer service. No long wait and I got to speak with a real live human...and not a guy named Dave from India.
Anyways...good luck with the tranny and keep us posted.
Thanks for the information. I never thought to look for the place of build or build date, but now I am curious. Is there a specific plant that is building trucks with this problem? I need to get some more items out of my truck tomorrow, so I will check the sticker in the door frame for this information. Is the lemon law really in effect if they have it more than 30 days. By the way, it does suck not having my truck. I am really pissed at toyota right now, especially because they stuck me in a crappy rental Ford, and didn't offer a toyota loaner.
Transmission went out at 500 miles (1st week)... My dealer put a new one in and the truck is doing fine and I just passed the 800 mile mark.
The dealer (and SET) says .. I WAS THE FIRST ... lol
We .. (THOSE WITH TRANSMISSION REPLACEMENTS) .. need to push TMCA in CA to give us the same 100K miles warranties that were given to the .. "5.7L Blown Crank" owners.
In my book ... replacing a transmission is just as big of a deal as replacing a transmission. ..... Both are about the same price too. ..... My dealer told me that replacing a 6 speed was about $7,000.00.
I still love my truck and it seems to be doing ok now ... it just bugs me to see another transmission problem ... when SET and US Toyota (TMCA) in CA acts like I am the only one.
SOS
PS .. I had a free loaner choice of a 2007 Tundra or a loaded 2007 Camry.
My dealer was super ... it was TMCA (Toyota Motor Co. America) in CA that was dragging their feet.
PPS .. Mine came from San Antonio, Tx ... but I do not know the "Build Date".
Unfortunetly you must have gotten one of the factory defects, which happens with every brand but can be a terrible and frustrating experience. As long as the dealer takes care of you though it should be alright.

I am really pissed at toyota right now, especially because they stuck me in a crappy rental Ford, and didn't offer a toyota loaner.
Oh no they didn't!!...That would seriously piss me off. I am usually a very reasonable consumer who doesn't like to complain but that is just not cool. A Ford for God's sake? That is jast a slap in the face in my book. If it were me the service manager would hearing from the Regional Manager before lunchtime tomorrow! Sorry for the rant but didn't they at least have a demo Toyota to loan you? I am sure the sales manager is driving home a nice shiny new demo Toyota tonight. I am sure if you call the Customer Experience Center and do some esplainin' of your situation you will get a quick response.
I banged off any angry email with the rental ford information today. TMC said they will get back to me. My Toyota dealer has not offered any concessions or even acted like they cared. I will never buy another vehicle from them. I probably wouldn't even be posting right now, if they had made an effort to handle this situation in an effort to help me out.

Dude, why all the Ford hating? My Fords have given me years of service and haven't seen a day in the shop that wasn't for an oil change.
Our '03 4runner, however, has been in the shop for a window falling off it's tracks, brakes and brake pads at 30K miles, a broken glove compartment shock from the dumb@$$es at Jiffy Lube, broken compartments otherwise, foggy headlights, and it has developed a bit of a piston slap in the morning with 40K miles on it.
It took my Expedition 9 years and 140K miles to develop that same slap.
Seriously, nothing p*sses me off more than you c*cky Toyota owners. You, and a few others of you (not all), think Toyota is the end-all-be-all. Let me tell you, it is not! I'm not saying Ford is better, but you know what? One member of countless people on the other forum has given me cr*p for owning a new Tundra. The rest of them have all asked me what it was like, and to each one of them, I told them it was a great truck that has served me well thus far.
No, I'm not a troll, nor am I a messenger from Ford. I am someone who hates to see people with a superiority complex like YOU.
Sorry for the rant and I did not have an intention to hurt your feewings.
Uh...damn dude...you have some serious anger management issues.
I happen to own a 2002 Ford Ranger with 90k mailes with not one problem. I do not hate Ford products at all. I love my little Ranger. I just think if you spend 35k+ on a brand new Tundra and your tranny takes a dump, your dealer should bend over backwards to make you happy unless he wants to hurt his rep.
It always cracks me up how people are so brave and lippy on the internet...I doubt if we met in real life you would talk to me or any other TS forum member like that. Grow up and stop your hatin'.
Whoa,
take a xanax dude, I am not a Ford hater, my point is, they should have put me in a nice loaner car, not some bare-bone basic Taurus that is really a crappy car to drive, and is hard to get in and out of (I'm 6'3"). A nicely equipped tundra or Camry would have been nice. I have owned chevys and Fords with hardly any complaints. I am not committed to Toyota, especially now that their truck left me hanging. I can't speak for the other toyota owners, but I'm not hater of any brand.

Hey buddy, I'm not hating. I recall that you said this in your previous post " A Ford for God's sake? That is jast a slap in the face in my book." To me, it sounds like you're the one hating Ford.
And yes, if I get mad enough, I would talk to you like this in real life, but remember, we're here to play nice.
On that note, I agree with you. A Toyota dealership should supply you with the same make and model, or a model you choose of the same make, if your tranny takes a dump on you. And yes, a dealer should bend over backwards but as we know, that's rarely the case.
And no, I do not have anger management issues. I rarely get mad and it's only when people act like morons.
Have a wonderful evening!

Haha I was talking to that bob dude. I have no hard feelings against you. I would be extremely pissed if they put me in a car that didn't suit my needs; in your case, a Taurus. Nobody wants to be stuck with a car that isn't on the same level as the one they purchased.
Sorry for the confusion man! I shoulda been more specific.
I do understand your frustration. I was upset when my transmission went out too. But try to be cool and work with your dealer. hopefully, they are trying to help you.
To answer your question ----> First, warning lights came on, then shifting and slipping problems with some rumbling too. ....... This all happened at once (within 20 miles) and at about 500 total miles.
I know that you are upset ... but try to be cool and work with the dealer. ... I will have to say this ... Atlanta Toyota (all the folks that I worked with there ... were super). I got to know the tech who worked on it and he drove it home (after he installed the new tranny) to make sure it was ok.
I was very upset when the trans failed ... but what can I do ????
Just take it back and have it replaced.
And I did tell the dealer .. "No Door Dings" please ... those things make me crazy ... lol ...
Now .. once you get the Tundra back and the transmission is ok. We all need to band together and request a 100K warranty from TMCA ... like the warranty that was given to the owners with the engine replacements.
