I was wondering is the only place to get an oil filter for an 07 Tundra 5.7L is from Toyota?

For now, yes. But soon other suppliers will have them (I haven't checked lately, so they may already be out).

That's probably only a temporary issue due to the fact that the engine is new. I bought enough at the dealership so that I wouldn't have to go back to get them until the aftermarket ones came out.

first off, great post. nice info for the diy crowd.

is taking the skid off the only way to get to the oil filter? lol, hate to pull up to (insert lube joint of your choice here) and say here ya go!

have always used kn oil filters on everything ive owned, when not avail i use mobil 1 filters. seeing as i might be getting a tundra.... what options are available for better oil filters? how is the stk toy quality? im looking at a trd and have already gone thru a few post about the trd specific filter.

cheers

If you go the 4.7 route, you'll have the nice spin on filter. If you go the 5.7, you'll be stuck with the cartridge filter. Removing the skid is the only way to get to it, too, unless you take a plasma cutter to the skid where the filter is. I wouldn't recommend doing it since the filter is a little ways up there and it may weaken the skid (not that it's there for boulder protection, but you know what I mean). There's soon to be some other manufacturers for the filter. The stock Toyota design is high quality, not that its hard to put a paper filter in a circle and put 2 plastic rings on both sides of the filter I'm hoping Toyota will redesign the filter to accomodate a spin on (not holding my breath though) so I can convert mine to a spin on.

gotcha. yeah they need to do a filter relocation kit like the desert runners and rockcrawlers. my jeepspeed cherokee from last year i did a reloc kit on it with the 4.0 and my current rockcrawler is a stroked 4.0 to 4.7 and ive done the same to accommodate headers, shock mounts, limit straps, etc. seems that would be something that TRD would be working on.

thanks for all the info.

cheers

FYI

I know I posted about Blackstone Labs. in an earlier post, but I just thought some of you might want to check it out further.
And no, I don't work for this company.

If any of you would like to know what/how to read a Blackstone Labs. oil analysis report then click on the link below. Then click on "understanding the report". That is the report you will receive.

(To learn where the various elements might be coming from, click here.)

Hopefully you can avoid some costly repairs before something really bad happens.

GOOD EXPLANATION. I HAD TO LEARN THROUGH TRIAL/ERROR. I HAVE BEEN CHANGING OIL FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS n this IS THE WORST CASE OF DON'T TOUCH ME THAT I Hve ever seen. LOOKING FOR TIRES IS A LOT OF FUN ALSO.

Follow the Oil Change PDF for "proper" torque settings.

Thumbs up Re: DIY: Oil Change w/ pics. & Reset Maintenance Required Light

I just finished my first oil change on 2007 Tundra CrewMax and I wanted to say that it is the most different oil change I have done since my '69' Volkswagen with an internal filter. With the help from mhadden-great job and all of you it was really not that bad. The next one will be much easier. I did want to say one thing about adding a tube or hose to the plastic piece for draining the filter cannister. I used a piece of 5/8' heater hose. It was not the tightest fit but it worked without an oil mess. So if you have a 2 ft. piece in your garage it will work. Also I purchased the oil cup at Advance Auto - 65mm/14 flutes. Worked perfect. Be careful like others have said about putting the big O ring in the correct O ring slot. I used 5W20 Mobil 1 and the engine is even smoother running after the oil change. Love my Tundra.
