Default The cooling fan drags alot.

Has anyone noticed how much drag the cooling fan (radiator) causes when accelerating from a complete stop? I was wondering what everyone thinks of doing an electric fan conversion. Might even help with the MPG. Comments anyone?

The viscous clutch based cooling fans have gotten quite a bit better over the years especially when they switched to plastic fans. A high flowing electric fan will always free up some power/mileage but may not do much in itself.
My fan only roars when cold starting, does yours do it from every stop?

I started a thread about this a while back. I agree. I've just gotten used to it...

Don't mess with 'em. IMHO I did tons of mod to my Chevy (I know, we aren't talking 'bout Chevys) and I regreted it. I had overheating problems and the A/C didn't work worth a crap either. Plus, if you were in traffic, forget it. The temp would creeep about 220F very quickly. The condensor for the A/C needs a lot of air for it to work right and the A/C in the Tundra just barely makes it in my opinion.
Fan drag or not, we still have more than enough power under the hood. I say, if it aint' broke.....

When I am clipping along at freeway speeds with the ac on I can feel mine kick on threw the floor. It has a vibration kind of feel when it does it. It is not a bad thing so don't someone read into it the wrong way and think this is a problem. Because it certainly isn't.

I've always liked the roar from the clutch-pack fans I'm sure you could do an electric conversion, but I'd be careful to make sure you have enough flow, especially depending on the size engine you have. I wouldn't try it with either of the V8's, but would with the smaller V6. (IMO)
